Toyota Yaris upgrades, generation by generation.

Radio King upgrades the Toyota Yaris by generation: the XP90 and XP130 get an Android screen in place of the CD radio or Touch 2 unit, with wireless CarPlay, DAB and a camera input, while the XP210 has CarPlay from the factory, so there we fit cameras, sensors and dash cams. Send your reg and we confirm what fits.

Toyota Yaris: questions people ask.

Ask on WhatsApp
Which Toyota Yaris do you see most in the workshop?

The 2011–2020 XP130, including plenty of Japanese-import Vitz cars, nearly always for an Android screen with wireless CarPlay because the Touch 2 unit or the Japanese radio cannot do it. The 2005–2011 XP90 comes in for the same screen and a camera. XP210 owners want front sensors, dash cams and a wireless adapter for the factory CarPlay.

My Yaris is a Japanese import with a Japanese radio. What do you do with it?

The Japanese unit comes out and a car-specific Android screen goes in its place with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB for Irish radio and a camera input, so you lose nothing and gain the apps. The fascia and harness match the Vitz dash, nothing is cut, and the steering-wheel buttons keep working. The dashboard language is a separate job we can talk through on the day.

Is a dash cam safe on a Yaris Hybrid?

Yes, as long as it is wired properly. We take power from the 12 V side of the car at the driver's side fuse box, never from the hybrid system, and fit a low-voltage cut-off so parking mode cannot flatten the small 12 V battery. The cable runs behind the A-pillar trim and the headliner, and a rear camera goes along the tailgate loom.

Which Toyota Yaris generation do I have?

XP90 — 2005–2011: Factory CD radio without a screen on nearly all cars; a Toyota navigation unit on a few high-spec cars. XP130 — 2011–2020: Toyota Touch 6.1-inch on 2011–2014 cars, Touch 2 or Touch 2 with Go from the 2014 facelift; no CarPlay on most cars, and Japanese-import Vitz cars carry a Japanese unit. XP210 — 2020 on: Toyota Touch 2 8-inch with wired CarPlay and Android Auto on 2020–2023 cars; Toyota Smart Connect 9 or 10.5-inch with wireless CarPlay on most later cars. Not sure? Send the reg on WhatsApp and we tell you the generation and the route.

What does Radio King fit on a Toyota Yaris?

CarPlay: Android screen with wireless CarPlay on the XP90 and XP130, factory CarPlay on the XP210. Reversing camera: Tailgate-handle camera on the Android screen, the Touch 2 input or the factory unit. Car radio: Nine-inch Android screen with DAB and a camera input for 2006–2010 and 2012–2016 cars. Parking sensors: Colour-matched rear sensors on older cars, front sensors added to the Hybrid and XP210. Dash cam: Hardwired from the driver's side fuse box with a cut-off; 12 V side only on the Hybrid. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

How long do jobs on a Toyota Yaris take?

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Most Yaris owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Do you keep the factory system on a Toyota Yaris?

XP90: the Factory CD radio without a screen on nearly all cars; a Toyota navigation unit on a few high-spec cars stays and we add to it. XP130: the Toyota Touch 6.1-inch on 2011–2014 cars, Touch 2 or Touch 2 with Go from the 2014 facelift; no CarPlay on most cars, and Japanese-import Vitz cars carry a Japanese unit stays and we add to it. XP210: the Toyota Touch 2 8-inch with wired CarPlay and Android Auto on 2020–2023 cars; Toyota Smart Connect 9 or 10.5-inch with wireless CarPlay on most later cars stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
