The unit, not just the CarPlay

Toyota’s dash opening is 200 mm wide rather than the usual 180 mm, so the unit has to be a Toyota unit: a moulded fascia for each model, a harness for the Toyota plugs, and the JBL harness on amplified cars. The screen is 9 or 10 inches depending on the dash, Android 12 on an eight-core processor, 2 GB with an IPS panel or 4 GB with a QLED panel, with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a SIM slot for its own data.

Fitting a Toyota radio properly
The Touch 2 unit comes out with its bracket and bezel; the new unit bolts to the same bracket and the Toyota fascia closes the 200 mm opening. The harness picks up power, speakers, camera, steering buttons and the antenna in the factory plugs — no cut wires — and on JBL cars the amplifier harness goes in first. The unit is set up before you leave: camera guidelines, steering buttons, CarPlay paired to your phone, Irish time and date.
