The W177 from 2019 to 2022, nearly always for the wireless CarPlay box on cars that came without the Smartphone Integration pack, then front sensors and dash cams. W176 owners come for the CarPlay box or a 10.25-inch Android screen. W169 cars still turn up for Android screens, because the Audio 20 has no display to build on.

Everything you use day to day. The COMAND controller, steering-wheel buttons, climate display, Bluetooth phone and the factory speakers all keep working through the new screen, and the harman/kardon amplifier is retained with the right adapter. The pod display comes out and the 10.25-inch unit sits in its place with a matching surround.

Most A-Class jobs are two to four hours: the wireless CarPlay box or a set of sensors is half a morning, an Android screen or a camera with coding is half a day. You can wait at the Dublin 11 workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it after lunch.

W169 — 2004–2012 (Three- and five-door hatch): Audio 20 CD radio or Audio 50 APS navigation in the double-DIN slot; COMAND APS on a few cars. W176 — 2012–2018 (Five-door hatch): Audio 20 on NTG4.5 with the 5.8 or 7-inch screen; the 2015 facelift brought the 8-inch display, and CarPlay was an option on some cars from 2016. W177 — 2018 on (Five-door hatch and V177 saloon): MBUX (NTG6) with the 7 or 10.25-inch touchscreen; CarPlay and Android Auto on most cars, as the Smartphone Integration pack on early ones. Not sure? Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits on the W169 and W176, extended 64-colour ambient lighting on the W177. CarPlay: Android screen on the W169, a CarPlay box on the W176, wireless CarPlay or a box on the W177 MBUX. Parking sensors: Parktronic coded in on the W176 and W177 where the loom allows, colour-matched sensors on the W169. Car radio: A 9-inch Android screen on the W169, a 10.25-inch screen with the COMAND knob kept on the W176. Dash cam: Hardwired from the footwell fuse box with parking mode; plug-in hybrids on the 12 V side only. Reversing camera: Camera into the Audio 20 screen on the W176, coded into MBUX on the W177, on the Android screen on the W169. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

Ambient lighting: two to four hours. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Most A-Class owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
