Mercedes-Benz · GLC

Mercedes-Benz GLC upgrades, generation by generation.

Radio King upgrades the Mercedes-Benz GLC: the X253 gets a wireless CarPlay box on the NTG5 screen or a 10.25-inch Android screen, a subwoofer on a DSP amplifier, a hardwired dash cam and extended ambient light; the X254 has MBUX with CarPlay, so the work is bass, dash cams and lighting. Send your reg and we confirm what fits.

FAQ

Mercedes-Benz GLC: questions people ask.

Answers for GLC owners. Something else? Message us on WhatsApp — we usually reply in under 5 minutes.

Ask on WhatsApp
Which GLC do you see most in the workshop?

The X253 from 2015 to 2019, for the wireless CarPlay box on the NTG5 screen and for subwoofers, because the factory sound is light on bass. Facelift X253 and X254 owners mostly want a wireless adapter for the CarPlay they already have, a hardwired dash cam and the footwells added to the ambient lighting.

Can a dash cam be hardwired in a GLC 300e plug-in hybrid?

Yes. The hybrid keeps a normal 12 V system for the lights and electronics, and that is the side we tap, with a low-voltage cut-off so the 12 V battery is never run down in parking mode. The high-voltage battery is not touched. On the X254 every engine is a mild or plug-in hybrid, and the same rule applies.

Is the GLC Coupé any different to work on?

Only at the back. The C253 and C254 Coupé have a shorter, sloped boot, so a boot-mounted subwoofer goes in a slimmer enclosure or under the front seat instead, and the rear dash cam sits higher on the glass. CarPlay, head units, lighting and the front camera are the same job as the SUV of the same years.

Which Mercedes-Benz GLC generation do I have?

X253 — 2015–2022 (SUV and C253 Coupé): Audio 20 or COMAND Online on NTG5 with the 7 or 8.4-inch screen; CarPlay optional on some cars from 2016; the 2019 facelift brought MBUX (NTG6) with the 10.25-inch touchscreen and CarPlay on most cars. X254 — 2022 on (SUV and C254 Coupé): MBUX (NTG7) with the 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory. Not sure? Send the reg on WhatsApp and we tell you the generation and the route.

What does Radio King fit on a Mercedes-Benz GLC?

Subwoofer: A compact subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory signal; Burmester cars keep their amplifier. CarPlay: A wireless CarPlay box on the X253 NTG5, wireless CarPlay on the facelift MBUX and on the X254. Ambient lighting: Extended ambient lighting on both generations: footwells, door pockets and console added to the factory strip. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode; plug-in hybrids on the 12 V side only. Car radio: A 10.25-inch Android screen with the COMAND knob kept on 2015–2019 X253 cars. Reversing camera: Factory-look camera on the factory screen with guidelines, coded in where the car supports it. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors with a factory-style tone, shown on the screen where the car supports it. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

How long do jobs on a Mercedes-Benz GLC take?

Subwoofer: about half a day. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Dash cam: one to two hours for a front camera, about two with a rear camera. Most GLC owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Do you keep the factory system on a Mercedes-Benz GLC?

X253: the Audio 20 or COMAND Online on NTG5 with the 7 or 8.4-inch screen; CarPlay optional on some cars from 2016; the 2019 facelift brought MBUX (NTG6) with the 10.25-inch touchscreen and CarPlay on most cars stays and we add to it. X254: the MBUX (NTG7) with the 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
