Which route your Mercedes takes
Mercedes changed its infotainment on a rolling schedule, so two cars from the same year can need different jobs. The screen and the controller tell us which:
- MBUX (NTG 6), 2018 on — the wide screen with the touchpad and “Hey Mercedes”. CarPlay and Android Auto are in the software; on many cars they were an option and are switched off. We enable them by coding, under an hour.
- NTG 5 and 5.5, 2014–2018 — the tablet-style screen on the dash of C-Class W205, E-Class W213, GLC, GLE W166, A-Class W176 facelift, CLA and GLA. No CarPlay before mid-2016, and none on lower trims after. A CarPlay box goes behind the dash and shows on the factory screen.
- NTG 4.5, 2011–2014 — C-Class W204 facelift, E-Class W212, A W176, B W246, CLA C117. Same answer: CarPlay box behind the factory screen.
- NTG 4 and Audio 20 CD, 2007–2011 — C-Class W204, ML W164, Vito, Sprinter. An Android screen replaces the radio, keeps the steering buttons and adds wireless CarPlay.

What changes on the dash
With activation, nothing. With a CarPlay box the factory screen, the rotary controller, the touchpad and every Mercedes menu stay; the box lives behind the glovebox with one USB lead in the console, and the parking display and reverse camera carry over. Burmester and Harman Kardon systems are untouched on both routes. Only the Android screen route changes what you see — a larger display in the factory position with a matching bezel — and even then the steering buttons keep working.
Prices
