W211, built 2002–2009 (Audio 20 or Audio 50 APS radio, COMAND APS on NTG1; the 2006 facelift brought NTG2.5): Android screen in the double-DIN slot with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; the Audio 20 and early COMAND displays are not worth feeding, so the screen is the route. W212, built 2009–2016 (Audio 20 or COMAND on NTG4 to 2013; the 2013 facelift brought NTG4.5 with Audio 20 CD or COMAND Online and the 5.8 or 7-inch screen): Wireless CarPlay box behind the original NTG4.5 screen on 2013–2016 cars and behind the COMAND NTG4 screen on earlier ones, COMAND knob kept; Audio 20 NTG4 cars with the small display usually go for the Android screen. W213, built 2016–2023 (Audio 20 or COMAND Online on NTG5.5 with the 8.4 or 12.3-inch screen and CarPlay as an option; the 2020 facelift brought MBUX (NTG6) with CarPlay on most cars): Coding activation on 2016–2020 cars with NTG5.5 where the option was not ordered; the 2020 facelift has it from the factory, so the work there is wireless CarPlay. W214, built 2023 on (MBUX (NTG7) with the 14.4-inch touchscreen or the Superscreen; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory): Factory CarPlay and Android Auto on every car; we set up wireless CarPlay and sort maps and region on imported cars.

W211: two to three hours; W212: two to four hours; W213: under an hour; W214: about an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the E-Class in the morning and collect it the same day.

W211: the display is replaced, but the steering-wheel buttons, the factory amplifier and the climate controls are kept. W212: the Audio 20 or COMAND on NTG4 to 2013; the 2013 facelift brought NTG4.5 with Audio 20 CD or COMAND Online and the 5.8 or 7-inch screen and its controls stay; the box sits behind the trim and is switched from the factory buttons. W213: nothing physical changes — the Audio 20 or COMAND Online on NTG5.5 with the 8.4 or 12.3-inch screen and CarPlay as an option; the 2020 facelift brought MBUX (NTG6) with CarPlay on most cars stays and the CarPlay tile simply appears. W214: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.
