Mercedes-Benz Android Screen & Car Radio Upgrade in Dublin

Radio King replaces the Audio 20 CD radio in older Mercedes-Benz cars and vans with a car-specific Android screen: wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera input, steering-wheel buttons kept and the Burmester or Harman Kardon amplifier retained. It suits the C-Class W204, ML W166, Vito W447 and Sprinter 906 — units from €290, fitted in two to three hours in Dublin 11. Cars with the COMAND screen keep it and get a CarPlay box instead.

Audio 20 or COMAND: what your Mercedes has

Mercedes split its cabins between a double-DIN radio and the COMAND system, and that single fact decides the job:

  • Audio 20 CD and Audio 10 / 15, roughly 2007–2014 — a radio the size of a double-DIN slot with a small display, in the C-Class W204, ML W164, Vito and Sprinter. It comes out and a car-specific Android screen goes in with a matching fascia: wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera input, steering buttons kept.
  • COMAND and the NTG tablet screens, 2011 on — the display on top of the dash with the rotary controller and touchpad. These stay: the screen is well integrated with the car, and the better upgrade is a CarPlay box behind it. That route is on the Mercedes CarPlay page.
  • MBUX, 2018 on — the wide screen with “Hey Mercedes”. Nothing to replace; CarPlay is usually already in the car and just needs switching on.

Fitting a Mercedes radio properly

The Audio 20 unit sits on side brackets that transfer to the new screen, and the fascia is moulded for the Mercedes dash so the opening closes without a gap. The harness carries power, speakers, the antenna, the CAN lines and the camera in the factory plugs — no cut wires. On amplified cars the amplifier harness goes in first; without it the speakers stay silent, which is why we check the VIN before the car comes in. The parking display and steering-wheel buttons carry over, and we keep the original radio in the box so the van or car can go back to standard at resale.

Prices

  • C-Class W204 and Vito screens — €290 supply-only, fitting booked at checkout.
  • ML / GLE W166 screen — €700 supply-only.
  • COMAND cars — CarPlay box from €450 fitted, on the Mercedes CarPlay page.
  • Reverse camera at the same visit — the usual add-on on Vito and Sprinter.

Mercedes-Benz car radio: questions people ask.

Ask on WhatsApp
Which Mercedes takes a new screen, and which keeps the factory one?

Cars with the Audio 20 CD radio — a double-DIN unit in the dash, typically C-Class W204, ML W164 and W166, Vito and Sprinter — take a car-specific Android screen. Cars with COMAND or the tablet-style display on the dash top, driven by the rotary controller, keep the factory screen: there the better job is a CarPlay box behind it, which is on our Mercedes CarPlay page.

Will the Burmester or Harman Kardon system keep working?

Yes. Amplified cars get the harness that keeps the factory amplifier in the loop, so every speaker and the subwoofer play as before. We confirm which system the car has from the VIN before it comes in — fitting the wrong harness is what leaves the speakers silent.

Can you do a Vito or a Sprinter?

Yes, and it is our most common Mercedes job. The Vito W447 and Sprinter 906 with the Audio 10 or Audio 15 radio take an Android screen, and we normally add a reverse camera on the same screen at the same visit — the pairing most van owners actually want.

Do the steering-wheel buttons and the parking display still work?

Yes. A CAN adapter keeps volume, track and phone buttons, and the parking tones and display carry over. The climate panel on these cars is separate and stays exactly where it is.

Does the new unit have DAB radio?

The units we stock do not include a DAB tuner. Every Irish and UK station streams through apps over the unit's SIM slot or your phone, which is how most owners listen. If DAB is a must for you, tell us before you order.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

Two to three hours, usually the same day. The C-Class W204 and Vito units are €290 supply-only and the ML W166 screen is €700; other models are quoted from the VIN. Fitting is booked at checkout, with a one-year warranty on the unit and the work. Workshop at Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11.
