On the X253 the neatest spot is the side recess in the boot, behind the trim, or an eight-inch woofer under the front seat; on the X254 we favour the under-seat woofer, because the plug-in hybrid battery already raises the boot floor. Either way a DSP amplifier takes the signal from the factory head unit, so nothing changes on the screen and the Burmester amplifier stays.
Is the Burmester system in a GLC worth upgrading?
The Burmester system is clear but light on bass, which is what most owners notice. We leave the Burmester amplifier and speakers in place and add a compact subwoofer on its own DSP amplifier, fed from the factory signal and time-aligned to the front speakers. You keep the factory controls and the sound settings, and gain the low end the system never had.
