Ford Fiesta upgrades, generation by generation.

Mk7 and Mk7.5 cars from 2008 to 2017, nearly always for the Android screen, because neither the Sony radio nor SYNC 1 can run CarPlay. Mk8 owners come in for a wireless adapter, front sensors, a reversing camera and a dash cam. We still see Mk6 cars for a screen and a camera, usually as a first car being made nicer to live with.

Only in the details. The ST shares its radio or SYNC unit with the rest of the range, so the screen and CarPlay routes are the same. Front sensors need care around the mesh bumper, the Sony system on ST-3 cars keeps its wiring, and the three-door body means a subwoofer usually goes under the boot floor rather than behind a rear seat.

An Android screen is about half a day, a reversing camera or a set of sensors two to three hours, a hardwired dash cam about an hour, and a wireless adapter on a Mk8 under an hour. You can wait at our Dublin 11 workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it after work.

Mk6 — 2002–2008 (three and five-door hatch): 6000CD radio, or the Sony six-disc unit on top trims; no screen. Mk7 — 2008–2012 (three and five-door hatch): 6000CD radio or the Sony CD unit with the button-heavy centre stack; Bluetooth voice control optional, no screen. Mk7.5 — 2013–2017 (three and five-door hatch, ST): SYNC 1 with a 4.2-inch display and AppLink on most cars, or the Sony DAB radio with the same display; no touchscreen and no CarPlay. Mk8 — 2017–2023 (three and five-door hatch, Active and ST): SYNC 3 with a 6.5 or 8-inch touchscreen and CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory; base cars have a DAB radio with a 4.2-inch display. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors on older cars, front sensors coded into SYNC on the Mk8. Reversing camera: Mirror monitor or Android screen up to the Mk7.5, camera coded into SYNC 3 on the Mk8. Speakers: Plug-in speaker upgrades on every Fiesta; B&O cars keep the factory amplifier. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits on older cars, the factory ambient light extended on Mk7.5 and Mk8 cars. Dash cam: Hardwired from the passenger-side fuse panel, 12-volt side only on mild-hybrid Mk8 cars. Subwoofer: Spare-wheel-well or under-floor subwoofer with a compact or DSP amplifier. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Most Fiesta owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
