Mk6, built 2002–2008 (6000CD radio, or the Sony six-disc unit on top trims; no screen): Compact active subwoofer in the spare-wheel well fed from the radio speaker outputs. Mk7, built 2008–2012 (6000CD radio or the Sony CD unit with the button-heavy centre stack; Bluetooth voice control optional, no screen): Under-floor or spare-wheel-well subwoofer with a compact amplifier; the boot floor stays flat. Mk7.5, built 2013–2017 (SYNC 1 with a 4.2-inch display and AppLink on most cars, or the Sony DAB radio with the same display; no touchscreen and no CarPlay): DSP amplifier fed from the speaker outputs with an under-floor subwoofer, so the boot stays usable; ST cars often go for a small sealed enclosure. Mk8, built 2017–2023 (SYNC 3 with a 6.5 or 8-inch touchscreen and CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory; base cars have a DAB radio with a 4.2-inch display): Compact under-floor subwoofer on a DSP amplifier that takes the SYNC signal; B&O cars keep the factory subwoofer.
