Ford Transit Custom upgrades, generation by generation.

Mk1 vans of both halves: 2012–2018 vans for the Android screen and a camera, 2018–2023 facelift vans for a camera on the SYNC 3 screen and a wireless adapter. Mk2 vans from 2023 come in for front sensors, a camera and a subwoofer under the bench. The Tourneo Custom follows the same routes as the van of the same year.

Only on the power side. On the Mk1 PHEV and the Mk2 E-Transit Custom everything we fit runs from the 12-volt system, so cameras, sensors and amplifiers are wired exactly as on a diesel van and never touch the high-voltage side. The screens and CarPlay routes are identical to the diesel of the same year.

Mk1 — 2012–2023 (panel van, double cab-in-van, Tourneo Custom and Nugget camper): Radio with a 4-inch display or SYNC 1 on 2012–2018 vans, SYNC 3 with a 6-inch touchscreen on some 2016–2018 vans; SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen and factory CarPlay from the 2018 facelift, while base Leader vans keep a DAB radio with a 4-inch display. Mk2 — 2023 on (panel van, double cab-in-van, Tourneo Custom and the electric E-Transit Custom): SYNC 4 with a 13-inch touchscreen, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory. Not sure? Reversing camera: Mirror monitor or Android screen on early Mk1 vans, camera into SYNC 3 or SYNC 4 on the rest. Car radio: 9-inch Android screen in place of the 4-inch radio on Mk1 vans; SYNC 3 and SYNC 4 stay. Speakers: Plug-in front speakers and tweeters; the front pair does all the work in a panel van. CarPlay: Android screen on early Mk1 vans, SYNC 3 update or factory CarPlay on the rest, wireless on the Mk2. Parking sensors: Rear sensors for base vans, front sensors coded into SYNC on facelift and Mk2 vans. Subwoofer: Under-bench subwoofer with an amplifier fed from the radio or SYNC signal. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED strips in the cab doors and dash, colour from your phone. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Soundproofing: Cab doors, floor and bulkhead treated; load area on request.

Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Speakers: two to four hours depending on how many speakers are changed. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Most Transit Custom owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
