Ford Android Screen & Car Radio Upgrade in Dublin

Radio King replaces the 6000CD, Sony and SYNC 1 radios in Fords with a car-specific Android screen: wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera input, steering-wheel buttons kept through a CAN adapter, matching fascia for Focus, Fiesta, Mondeo, Kuga, Transit and Transit Custom. Units from €290, no radio code needed, fitted in two to three hours in Dublin 11. Fords with SYNC 3 already have CarPlay.

Which Ford radio you have decides the job

Ford used the same handful of radios across the range for a decade, so the year and the radio tell us almost everything:

  • 6000CD and Sony CD (2004–2012) — Focus MK2, Fiesta MK7, Mondeo MK4, Kuga MK1, Transit MK7. A rectangular radio with a small green or blue display. Comes out, a car-specific Android screen goes in with a matching fascia.
  • SYNC 1 and SYNC 2 (2012–2016) — Focus MK3, Fiesta MK7 facelift, Kuga MK2, Mondeo MK5, Transit MK8, Transit Custom. SYNC 1 has a 4-inch screen and buttons; SYNC 2 an 8-inch touchscreen. Neither has CarPlay, both swap for an Android screen.
  • SYNC 3 (2017 on) — the 8-inch screen with the Ford tiles. CarPlay and Android Auto are already there, wired. A plug-in wireless adapter is all these cars need.

What you get in the Ford

A 9 or 10-inch Android screen shaped for the Ford dash: wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, YouTube, Bluetooth calls, built-in GPS and a SIM slot for its own data. Android 12 on an eight-core processor, 2 GB with an IPS panel or 4 GB with a QLED panel. Reverse camera input, steering-wheel buttons kept through the CAN adapter, the climate panel untouched. On the Transit and Transit Custom we add the reverse camera at the same visit more often than not.

Fitting a Ford radio properly

Ford radios need the release keys to come out cleanly and a fascia that fills the double-DIN opening without a gap; the cheap universal trims never sit right. The harness picks up power, speakers and the CAN lines in one plug, so there is no splicing, and the steering buttons and the info display keep working. On SYNC 2 cars the climate controls live on the touchscreen, so we fit the unit that keeps them on screen — check with us before buying a unit online.

Why Radio King

Seven years of Fords and Transits through the workshop in Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11, around 500 units in stock and a demo stand so you can try the screen first. One-year warranty on the unit and the fitting, 4.8 stars on Google.

FAQ

Ford car radio: questions people ask.

Answers for Ford owners. Something else? Message us on WhatsApp — we usually reply in under 5 minutes.

Ask on WhatsApp
My Ford radio is asking for a code. Do I need it for the upgrade?

No. The 6000CD and Sony radios lock after a battery disconnect, but a new Android unit has no security code at all, so the locked radio simply comes out. If you would rather keep the original, ask us — that is a separate job.

Which Fords already have CarPlay?

Anything with SYNC 3 — most 2017-on Focus, Fiesta, Kuga, Puma, Transit and Ranger with the 8-inch touchscreen — has wired CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory. There a wireless adapter is the only thing worth adding. Fords with the 6000CD, Sony CD or SYNC 1 radio, and the SYNC 2 cars from 2015 and 2016, are the ones that take a new screen.

Can the Transit or Transit Custom get a reverse camera on the same screen?

Yes, and it is the most common Transit job we do: the Android screen up front and a camera above the number plate or on the rear door, with guidelines on screen. One visit, and the van gets CarPlay, navigation and a rear view at the same time.

Do the steering-wheel buttons keep working?

Yes. A CAN adapter carries volume, track and phone buttons to the new unit, and on cars with the small info display between the dials the radio information stays in place.

Does the new unit have DAB?

The units we stock do not have a built-in DAB tuner. Every Irish and UK station streams through apps over the unit's SIM slot or your phone, which is what most owners end up using. If DAB is a must for you, tell us before you order.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

Two to three hours, usually the same day. Mondeo, Kuga and Transit units are €290 supply-only; other models are confirmed once we know the year and the radio fitted. Fitting is added at checkout, and there is a one-year warranty on the unit and the work.
