Two Volkswagens: MIB2 and everything before it
MIB2, about 2016 on — the glass touchscreen with proximity sensing, badged Composition Media or Discover Media. Golf MK7 facelift, Polo 6C and AW, Tiguan AD, Passat B8, Touran 5T, T6, Caddy 4, Crafter 2017 on, Amarok facelift. CarPlay and Android Auto are already in the unit, locked behind VW’s App-Connect option. We switch it on by coding: no parts, under an hour, and the car stays factory. Our 2020 Tiguan activation is a typical job.
RCD, RNS and MIB1, 2005–2015 — the radio with buttons down both sides, or the early Composition Touch. Polo 6R, Golf MK5, MK6 and early MK7, Tiguan 5N, Touran 1T, Passat B6 and B7, Transporter T5 and early T6, Caddy 2K, Amarok, Up, Beetle. No CarPlay in the software, so a car-specific Android screen replaces the radio and adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto with the steering buttons and parking display kept.
ID.3, ID.4 and 2021-on cars — CarPlay from the factory. A wireless adapter is all that is worth adding.

What changes on the dash
With activation, nothing but a new App-Connect tile in the menu. With an Android screen the radio comes out of its quadlock plug and the new unit goes in with a VW-shaped fascia; the CAN gateway keeps the steering buttons, the OPS parking display and the ignition-off behaviour, and the climate panel is untouched. Dynaudio and Fender systems keep their amplifier through the right harness.
