How long does CarPlay take on a Volkswagen Transporter?
T5 / T5.1: two to four hours; T6: under an hour; T6.1: about an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the Transporter in the morning and collect it the same day.
What stays factory when you fit CarPlay on a Volkswagen Transporter?
T5 / T5.1: the RCD 200, RCD 300 or RCD 500 on the T5; RCD 310 or RCD 510 and RNS 315 or RNS 510 on the T5.1 from 2010 and its controls stay; the box sits behind the trim and is switched from the factory buttons. T6: nothing physical changes — the Composition Colour, Composition Media or Discover Media: MIB1 on early vans, MIB2 with App-Connect on most 2017–2019 vans stays and the CarPlay tile simply appears. T6.1: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.
