Radio King does CarPlay and Android Auto retrofit on every Volkswagen Transporter generation we see: T5 / T5.1 (2003–2015): Android screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto in place of the RCD radio; T5.1 vans with the RNS 510 can keep it and take a CarPlay interface; T6 (2015–2019): App-Connect activation by coding on MIB2 vans where it was not ordered, plus a wireless adapter; MIB1 vans take our Android screen or an interface box on the factory display; T6.1 (2019–2024): Factory App-Connect on most vans: wireless adapter for the wired Composition units, Android Auto settings and map or region changes on imports. How long does CarPlay take on a Volkswagen Transporter?
T5 / T5.1: two to four hours; T6: under an hour; T6.1: about an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the Transporter in the morning and collect it the same day.
What stays factory when you fit CarPlay on a Volkswagen Transporter?
T5 / T5.1: the RCD 200, RCD 300 or RCD 500 on the T5; RCD 310 or RCD 510 and RNS 315 or RNS 510 on the T5.1 from 2010 and its controls stay; the box sits behind the trim and is switched from the factory buttons. T6: nothing physical changes — the Composition Colour, Composition Media or Discover Media: MIB1 on early vans, MIB2 with App-Connect on most 2017–2019 vans stays and the CarPlay tile simply appears. T6.1: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.
