Volkswagen Transporter upgrades, generation by generation.

T5.1 and early T6 vans from 2010 to 2016, nearly always for the Transporter Android screen, because the RCD radios and Composition Colour have no usable display. Later T6 and T6.1 vans come for App-Connect coding, a wireless adapter and a reversing camera. Camper conversions come in for rear speakers and sound deadening.

Yes. They share the same dashboard and head units as the panel van of the same year, so the routes are identical; only the camera position changes between a tailgate and barn doors, and the rear speaker work depends on the cabin trim. Send the reg and we confirm what fits.

The T7 Transporter is a different van with its own factory screen and wireless CarPlay, so it is not covered by the generations above. Cameras, dash cams and speakers on it are quoted after we see the van in our Dublin 11 workshop.

T5 / T5.1 — 2003–2015 (panel van, Kombi, Shuttle, Caravelle and California): RCD 200, RCD 300 or RCD 500 on the T5; RCD 310 or RCD 510 and RNS 315 or RNS 510 on the T5.1 from 2010. T6 — 2015–2019 (panel van, Kombi, Shuttle, Caravelle and California): Composition Colour, Composition Media or Discover Media: MIB1 on early vans, MIB2 with App-Connect on most 2017–2019 vans. T6.1 — 2019–2024 (panel van, Kombi, Shuttle, Caravelle and California): MIB3 Composition Colour, Discover Media or Discover Pro with App-Connect; wireless on most Discover units, the Digital Cockpit optional. Reversing camera: Tailgate or barn-door camera coded into the MIB screen on the T6 and T6.1, on the Android screen on the T5. Car radio: Transporter Android screen for the T5, T5.1 and early T6 with DAB, camera input and steering-wheel control. CarPlay: Android screen on the T5, App-Connect coding on MIB2 T6 vans, wireless adapters on the T6.1. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers on every Transporter; rear cabin speakers added to Kombi and panel vans. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED strips in the cab doors and dash, colour from your phone. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors with a factory-style tone, shown on the screen where the car supports it. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat subwoofer with its own amplifier, nothing in the load area. Soundproofing: Cab doors, floor and bulkhead treated; load area on request.

Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Speakers: two to four hours depending on how many speakers are changed. Most Transporter owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

T5 / T5.1: the RCD 200, RCD 300 or RCD 500 on the T5; RCD 310 or RCD 510 and RNS 315 or RNS 510 on the T5.1 from 2010 stays and we add to it. T6: the Composition Colour, Composition Media or Discover Media: MIB1 on early vans, MIB2 with App-Connect on most 2017–2019 vans stays and we add to it. T6.1: the MIB3 Composition Colour, Discover Media or Discover Pro with App-Connect; wireless on most Discover units, the Digital Cockpit optional stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
