No. On Mk6 and Mk7 Dynaudio cars and Mk8 Harman Kardon cars the factory amplifier and speakers stay in place; an Android screen or a subwoofer is fed through the factory signal path. The standard eight-speaker system is where a speaker upgrade makes the biggest difference.

Car radio: Golf-specific Android screens for the Mk5, Mk6 and Mk7, steering-wheel control and Climatronic kept. Parking sensors: Four rear sensors and a beeper that speeds up as you close in; nothing on the screen. Ambient lighting: LED kits for the Mk5 and Mk6, the factory ambient line extended on the Mk7 and Mk8. Reversing camera: Factory-style badge camera coded into the MIB screen on the Mk7 and Mk8, Android screen on older cars. Speakers: Plug-in door components on every Golf; Dynaudio and Harman Kardon cars keep their amplifier. Subwoofer: Under-seat or spare-wheel-well subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory signal. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Parking sensors: two to three hours. Dash cam: one to two hours for a front camera, about two with a rear camera. Most Golf owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
