The Mk7 from 2012 to 2020, for App-Connect coding and wireless adapters on MIB2 cars and for our Mk7 Android screen on the earlier MIB1 cars. Mk6 owners come for the same screen swap and for front sensors. Mk8 owners mostly want a reversing camera, a hardwired dash cam or extended ambient lighting.

Usually, yes. On Mk6 and Mk7 cars a single failed sensor or a chafed loom behind the bumper is the common fault; we test each sensor, replace the faulty one in the matching colour and recode where needed. If the control unit itself has gone, we tell you before any work starts.

No. On Mk6 and Mk7 Dynaudio cars and Mk8 Harman Kardon cars the factory amplifier and speakers stay in place; an Android screen or a subwoofer is fed through the factory signal path. The standard eight-speaker system is where a speaker upgrade makes the biggest difference.

Mk5 — 2003–2008 (hatch, estate and Golf Plus): RCD 300 or RCD 500 CD radio; RNS 300 navigation, RNS 510 on late cars. Mk6 — 2008–2012 (hatch, estate and cabriolet): RCD 310 or RCD 510 radio; RNS 310, RNS 315 or RNS 510 navigation. Mk7 / Mk7.5 — 2012–2020 (hatch, estate and SV): MIB1 Composition Media or Discover Media on 2013–2015 cars; MIB2 with App-Connect from 2016 and on the Mk7.5 (Discover Navigation and Discover Pro). CarPlay: App-Connect coding on MIB2 Mk7 cars, our Android screen on Mk5, Mk6 and MIB1 Mk7, factory CarPlay on the Mk8. Car radio: Golf-specific Android screens for the Mk5, Mk6 and Mk7, steering-wheel control and Climatronic kept. Parking sensors: Park Pilot coded into the MIB screen on the Mk7 and Mk8, colour-matched sensors on the Mk5 and Mk6. Dash cam: Hardwired from the driver's-side dash fuse panel with a cut-off; GTE and eHybrid on the 12 V side. Ambient lighting: LED kits for the Mk5 and Mk6, the factory ambient line extended on the Mk7 and Mk8. Reversing camera: Factory-style badge camera coded into the MIB screen on the Mk7 and Mk8, Android screen on older cars. Speakers: Plug-in door components on every Golf; Dynaudio and Harman Kardon cars keep their amplifier. Subwoofer: Under-seat or spare-wheel-well subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory signal. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Dash cam: one to two hours for a front camera, about two with a rear camera. Most Golf owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
