Volkswagen Golf CarPlay installation, generation by generation.

Radio King does CarPlay and Android Auto retrofit on every Volkswagen Golf generation we see: Mk5 (2003–2008): Golf Android screen in the double-DIN slot with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; RNS 510 cars can keep the factory unit and take a CarPlay interface instead; Mk6 (2008–2012): Android screen replacing the RCD 310 or 510 with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; a CarPlay interface on the factory screen for RNS 510 cars; Mk7 / Mk7.5 (2012–2020): App-Connect activation by coding on MIB2 cars from 2016 where it was not ordered, plus a wireless adapter; MIB1 cars from 2013 to 2015 take our Mk7 Android screen or an interface box on the factory screen; Mk8 (2020 on): Factory wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; we sort connection problems, Android Auto settings and map or region changes on imported cars. From €150. Send your reg and we confirm the route and the price the same day.

By generation

CarPlay on each Golf: how we do it.

Find your years in the first two columns. The factory system decides the route, and the route decides the price — send the reg if you are not sure which one you have.

FAQ

Volkswagen Golf CarPlay: questions people ask.

Answers for Golf owners. Something else? Message us on WhatsApp — we usually reply in under 5 minutes.

Ask on WhatsApp
Does my Golf Mk7 have CarPlay hidden in the system?

If it is a 2016 or later Mk7 or a Mk7.5 with Composition Media, Discover Media or Discover Pro, it is a MIB2 unit and App-Connect is usually in the software, so we enable it by coding in about an hour. 2013 to 2015 cars with MIB1 never had it, so those get our Mk7 Android screen or an interface box on the factory screen. Send the reg and we check which unit is in the car.

Can I get wireless CarPlay in a Golf Mk6 or Mk5?

Yes. The RCD 310 and RCD 510 cannot show a phone screen, so the route is a Golf Android screen in the factory position with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB and a camera input, with the steering-wheel buttons kept. Mk6 cars with the RNS 510 navigation can keep the factory unit and take a CarPlay interface behind it instead.

How much does CarPlay cost on a Volkswagen Golf?

It depends on the generation. Mk5 (2003–2008): from €450; Mk6 (2008–2012): from €450; Mk7 / Mk7.5 (2012–2020): from €150; Mk8 (2020 on): from €150. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.

Which Volkswagen Golf years can have CarPlay?

Mk5, built 2003–2008 (RCD 300 or RCD 500 CD radio; RNS 300 navigation, RNS 510 on late cars): Golf Android screen in the double-DIN slot with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; RNS 510 cars can keep the factory unit and take a CarPlay interface instead. Mk6, built 2008–2012 (RCD 310 or RCD 510 radio; RNS 310, RNS 315 or RNS 510 navigation): Android screen replacing the RCD 310 or 510 with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; a CarPlay interface on the factory screen for RNS 510 cars. Mk7 / Mk7.5, built 2012–2020 (MIB1 Composition Media or Discover Media on 2013–2015 cars; MIB2 with App-Connect from 2016 and on the Mk7.5 (Discover Navigation and Discover Pro)): App-Connect activation by coding on MIB2 cars from 2016 where it was not ordered, plus a wireless adapter; MIB1 cars from 2013 to 2015 take our Mk7 Android screen or an interface box on the factory screen. Mk8, built 2020 on (MIB3 Discover Media or Discover Pro with wireless App-Connect and the Digital Cockpit; 12.9-inch screen on the 2024 facelift): Factory wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; we sort connection problems, Android Auto settings and map or region changes on imported cars.

How long does CarPlay take on a Volkswagen Golf?

Mk5: two to four hours; Mk6: two to four hours; Mk7 / Mk7.5: under an hour; Mk8: about an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the Golf in the morning and collect it the same day.

What stays factory when you fit CarPlay on a Volkswagen Golf?

Mk5: the RCD 300 or RCD 500 CD radio; RNS 300 navigation, RNS 510 on late cars and its controls stay; the box sits behind the trim and is switched from the factory buttons. Mk6: the RCD 310 or RCD 510 radio; RNS 310, RNS 315 or RNS 510 navigation and its controls stay; the box sits behind the trim and is switched from the factory buttons. Mk7 / Mk7.5: nothing physical changes — the MIB1 Composition Media or Discover Media on 2013–2015 cars; MIB2 with App-Connect from 2016 and on the Mk7.5 (Discover Navigation and Discover Pro) stays and the CarPlay tile simply appears. Mk8: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.

Do I need to book CarPlay for my Volkswagen Golf, and is there a warranty?

Yes — send the reg or the year and generation (Mk5, Mk6, Mk7 and Mk8) on WhatsApp or the form below, and we confirm the route, the price and the next free slot. The work carries a one-year warranty, and the workshop is in Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11, Monday to Saturday.
