FAQ
Volkswagen Crafter CarPlay: questions people ask.
Answers for Crafter owners. Something else? Message us on WhatsApp — we usually reply in under 5 minutes.
Ask on WhatsAppDoes a 2017-on Crafter need a new radio for CarPlay?
Usually not. Composition Media and Discover Media on the SY and SZ are MIB2 units with App-Connect in the software on most vans, so we switch it on by coding in about an hour and add a wireless adapter if you want the phone to connect on its own. Composition Colour vans and every 2006–2016 2E van have no mirroring, so those get the Crafter Android screen.
How much does CarPlay cost on a Volkswagen Crafter?
It depends on the generation. 2E (2006–2016): from €290; SY / SZ (2017 on): from €200. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.
Which Volkswagen Crafter years can have CarPlay?
2E, built 2006–2016 (RCD 2001 single-DIN radio on most vans, RCD 4201 or RCD 4202 double-DIN on later or higher-spec vans; no touchscreen or camera input): Android screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto in the factory radio position; single-DIN vans take a double-DIN fascia adapter. SY / SZ, built 2017 on (MIB2 Composition Colour, Composition Media or Discover Media with App-Connect; 10-inch MIB3 units on the latest vans, wireless App-Connect on many of them): App-Connect activation by coding on MIB2 vans where it was not ordered, a wireless adapter for the wired units; latest MIB3 vans usually have wireless CarPlay already.
How long does CarPlay take on a Volkswagen Crafter?
2E: two to three hours; SY / SZ: under an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the Crafter in the morning and collect it the same day.
What stays factory when you fit CarPlay on a Volkswagen Crafter?
2E: the display is replaced, but the steering-wheel buttons, the factory amplifier and the climate controls are kept. SY / SZ: nothing physical changes — the MIB2 Composition Colour, Composition Media or Discover Media with App-Connect; 10-inch MIB3 units on the latest vans, wireless App-Connect on many of them stays and the CarPlay tile simply appears.
Do I need to book CarPlay for my Volkswagen Crafter, and is there a warranty?
Yes — send the reg or the year and generation (2E and SY) on WhatsApp or the form below, and we confirm the route, the price and the next free slot. The work carries a one-year warranty, and the workshop is in Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11, Monday to Saturday.
