FAQ
Volkswagen ID.4 CarPlay: questions people ask.
Answers for ID.4 owners. Something else? Message us on WhatsApp — we usually reply in under 5 minutes.
Ask on WhatsAppWhy is CarPlay wired on my ID.4 and can it be wireless?
Launch cars from 2021 to 2023 shipped on ID. software 2.x with wired App-Connect; wireless came with the 3.0 update, which not every car has received. We either check the car qualifies for the update or fit a wireless adapter in the USB-C port, so the phone connects on its own each time. 2024 facelift cars on software 4.x have wireless CarPlay from the factory.
CarPlay keeps dropping on my ID.4. Is that a fault?
Usually not a hardware one. On 2021 to 2023 cars it is most often the cable, a phone setting or the software version, and the fix is a proper USB-C data cable, a reset of the connection or the update. On imported cars we also sort the map region and language. Bring the car to our Dublin 11 workshop and we test it with your phone.
How much does CarPlay cost on a Volkswagen ID.4?
It depends on the generation. E21 (2021–2023): from €250; E21 facelift (2024 on): from €250. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.
Which Volkswagen ID.4 years can have CarPlay?
E21, built 2021–2023 (10-inch Discover Pro on ID. software 2.x and 3.x; App-Connect wired on early software, wireless after the 3.0 update on most cars): Wired App-Connect on early software: a wireless adapter in the USB-C port, or the ID. software update where the car qualifies; connection faults, Android Auto settings and maps on imports. E21 facelift, built 2024 on (12.9-inch screen on ID. software 4.x, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory): Factory wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; we handle connection faults, Android Auto settings and map or region changes on imported cars.
How long does CarPlay take on a Volkswagen ID.4?
E21: about an hour; E21 facelift: about an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the ID.4 in the morning and collect it the same day.
What stays factory when you fit CarPlay on a Volkswagen ID.4?
E21: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it. E21 facelift: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.
Do I need to book CarPlay for my Volkswagen ID.4, and is there a warranty?
Yes — send the reg or the year and generation (E21) on WhatsApp or the form below, and we confirm the route, the price and the next free slot. The work carries a one-year warranty, and the workshop is in Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11, Monday to Saturday.
