2021 to 2023 launch cars, nearly always to make App-Connect wireless or to stop it dropping out, and imported cars that need the map region and language changed. The 2024 facelift with the 12.9-inch screen comes in for connection checks only.
Do you fit dash cams or cameras to an electric ID.4?
The ID.4 pages here cover CarPlay and Android Auto only. Other work on the ID.4 is quoted after we see the car; anything electrical is wired on the 12 V side, never from the high-voltage system, with a low-voltage cut-off to protect the 12 V battery.

What does Radio King fit on a Volkswagen ID.4?
CarPlay: Wireless adapter or software update on 2021–2023 cars, factory wireless CarPlay on the 2024 facelift. Reversing camera: Factory-look camera on the factory screen with guidelines, coded in where the car supports it. Car radio: Larger Android screen with the factory buttons and amplifier kept, where the original display is too small. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: A rear-only kit of four bumper sensors with an audible warning, no screen display. Dash cam: Hardwired on the 12 V side with a cut-off for the small 12 V battery, parking mode included. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.
How long do jobs on a Volkswagen ID.4 take?
CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most ID.4 owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
Do you keep the factory system on a Volkswagen ID.4?
E21: the 10-inch Discover Pro on ID. software 2.x and 3.x; App-Connect wired on early software, wireless after the 3.0 update on most cars stays and we add to it. E21 facelift: the 12.9-inch screen on ID. software 4.x, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
