The ZE2 from 2009 to 2014, both Irish cars and Japanese imports, nearly always for an Android screen with CarPlay and a reversing camera on the same screen. ZE4 imports are newer and fewer, and they come for an Android screen or a wireless adapter depending on the unit they arrived with.

No. Both generations keep a normal 12 V battery for the electronics, so the Android screen, its camera and any accessories are wired from the interior fuse box like any other Honda and the high-voltage hybrid system is never touched. The screen draws no more than the factory unit did.

ZE2 / ZE3 — 2009–2014: CD radio with a small display on Irish cars, Honda navigation on the ES-T; Japanese imports carry a Gathers unit with Japanese menus and a Japanese FM band. CarPlay: Android screen on the ZE2 and on ZE4 imports with a Gathers unit; wireless adapter where CarPlay is factory. Reversing camera: Camera on the factory screen where it supports it, a mirror monitor or Android screen where it does not. Car radio: Car-specific Android screen with wireless CarPlay, DAB and camera input, factory controls kept. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors with a factory-style tone, shown on the screen where the car supports it. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most Insight owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
