The unit, not just the CarPlay
Which Honda takes what route to CarPlay is on the Honda CarPlay page. This page is about the radio itself: what replaces the factory unit, what it keeps from the car, and what it costs.
A Honda screen is a 9 or 10-inch Android unit built for the car: Android 12 on an eight-core processor, 2 GB with an IPS panel or 4 GB with a QLED panel, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a SIM slot for its own data. Reverse camera input, steering-wheel buttons kept through a CAN adapter, and a fascia moulded for the Honda dash — which is the part that separates a fitted screen from a bought-online one.

Fitting a Honda radio properly
The factory unit comes out on its brackets and the new screen goes back on the same brackets, so the dash is never cut. The harness takes power, speakers, the reverse camera, the steering-wheel buttons and the antenna from the Honda plugs — a universal loom would leave the camera and the wheel buttons dead, which is the usual complaint about a unit bought online. On the Civic FN we use the two-tier fascia so the screen lines up with the upper display rather than sitting proud of it. Imports get the same treatment plus the European tuner, so the Irish dial works from the first drive.
