Ford · Ranger

Ford Ranger upgrades, generation by generation.

Radio King upgrades the Ranger: an Android screen replaces the 6000CD on the Mk2 and the 4-inch radio on early T6 trucks, later T6 trucks get a CarPlay box or the SYNC 3 update, and the T6.2 already has wireless CarPlay, so there it is cameras, sensors and sound. Send your reg and we confirm what fits.

FAQ

Ford Ranger: questions people ask.

Ask on WhatsApp
Which Ranger do you see most?

T6 trucks from 2012 to 2022, mostly Wildtrak and Limited double cabs, for CarPlay on SYNC 3, a reversing camera and front sensors. Mk2 owners come for a screen to replace the 6000CD, and T6.2 owners for a dash cam, a subwoofer under the bench and a camera fed into the portrait screen.

Does a canopy, roller shutter or tow bar get in the way?

Not of the work, only of where things go. With a canopy the camera goes on the canopy door or stays in the tailgate handle with a longer loom; a roller shutter keeps the tailgate camera; a tow bar means we angle the camera so the ball does not fill the picture. Rear sensors go around a tow bar or into a bar under the bumper. Tell us what is fitted when you send the reg.

Which Ford Ranger generation do I have?

Mk2 — 2006–2011 (single, super and double cab): 6000CD radio, no screen. T6 — 2011–2022 (single, super and double cab, Wildtrak and Raptor): Radio with a 4.2-inch display or SYNC 1 on 2012–2015 trucks; SYNC 2 with an 8-inch touchscreen on the first 2016 builds, then SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen, CarPlay after a software update and standard on later trucks. T6.2 — 2023 on (super and double cab, Wildtrak, Platinum and Raptor): SYNC 4 with a 10.1 or 12-inch portrait touchscreen, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory. Not sure? Send the reg on WhatsApp and we tell you the generation and the route.

What does Radio King fit on a Ford Ranger?

Reversing camera: Mirror monitor or Android screen on older trucks, camera into SYNC 3 or SYNC 4 on later ones. Parking sensors: Rear sensors or a sensor bar on the Mk2, front sensors coded into SYNC on T6 and T6.2 trucks. Car radio: Android screen on the Mk2 and 4.2-inch radio T6 trucks; SYNC 3 and SYNC 4 stay. CarPlay: Android screen on early trucks, a box on SYNC 2, the SYNC 3 update, factory wireless CarPlay on the T6.2. Subwoofer: Under-bench subwoofer on double cabs with a compact or DSP amplifier, load bed untouched. Dash cam: Hardwired from the cab fuse box with a cut-off, rear camera in the cab window; 12-volt side only on the PHEV. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED strips in the cab doors and dash, colour from your phone. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Soundproofing: Cab doors, floor and bulkhead treated; load area on request.

How long do jobs on a Ford Ranger take?

Reversing camera: two to three hours. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Most Ranger owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Do you keep the factory system on a Ford Ranger?

Mk2: the 6000CD radio, no screen stays and we add to it. T6: the Radio with a 4.2-inch display or SYNC 1 on 2012–2015 trucks; SYNC 2 with an 8-inch touchscreen on the first 2016 builds, then SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen, CarPlay after a software update and standard on later trucks stays and we add to it. T6.2: the SYNC 4 with a 10.1 or 12-inch portrait touchscreen, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
