Ford Mondeo upgrades, generation by generation.

The Mk4 from 2007 to 2014, nearly always for the Android screen, because the 6000CD and Sony radios have nothing CarPlay can use. Mk5 owners come in for CarPlay on SYNC 2 and SYNC 3 and for a camera on the factory screen. Mk3 cars still turn up for a screen and a camera, usually estates that are being kept.

Only the power side. The Mk5 Hybrid has the same SYNC 2 or SYNC 3 unit as the diesel, so CarPlay and the camera are done the same way. Anything that needs a permanent feed, such as a camera interface or sensors, is wired from the 12-volt fuse box and never touches the high-voltage system. The saloon boot is a little shallower, which only matters for the camera cable run.

Mk3 — 2000–2007 (hatch, saloon and estate): 6000CD radio or the 6006E six-disc unit; a small navigation screen on a few Ghia X cars, no CarPlay. Mk4 — 2007–2014 (hatch, saloon and estate): 6000CD radio or the Sony CD unit, Bluetooth voice control on most; a small navigation screen on Titanium X cars, no CarPlay. Reversing camera: Mirror monitor or Android screen on Mk3 and Mk4 cars, camera into the SYNC screen on the Mk5. Car radio: 9-inch Android screen on the Mk3 and Mk4; SYNC 3 stays on the Mk5. CarPlay: Android screen on Mk3 and Mk4 cars, a CarPlay box on SYNC 2 and the update on SYNC 3 Mk5 cars. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors on Mk3 and Mk4 cars, front sensors coded into SYNC on the Mk5. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Most Mondeo owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
