Pre-facelift cars from 2014 to 2017, nearly always for the Android screen, because the small SYNC 1 display gives owners nothing to work with. Facelift cars with SYNC 3 come in for a wireless CarPlay adapter, and base facelift cars with the small radio for the same screen as the earlier cars. Both versions take a couple of hours to half a day.

Look at the dashboard. Pre-facelift cars from 2014 to 2017 have the tall centre stack with a small display above a block of buttons, much like the Fiesta Mk7.5 of the same years. Facelift cars from 2018 have the new dash with a touchscreen standing up from the top and a simpler button layout below it. If in doubt, the reg tells us for certain.

Mk2 — 2014–2017: Radio with a small display, or SYNC 1 with AppLink on Titanium cars; no touchscreen and no CarPlay. Mk2.5 — 2017–2023: SYNC 3 with a 6.5 or 8-inch touchscreen and CarPlay and Android Auto on Zetec and above; base cars have a radio with a 4.2-inch display. Not sure? Car radio: 9-inch Android screen on 2014–2017 cars and base facelift cars; SYNC 3 stays on the rest. CarPlay: Android screen on 2014–2017 cars, factory CarPlay and a wireless adapter on SYNC 3 facelift cars. Reversing camera: Factory-look camera on the factory screen with guidelines, coded in where the car supports it. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Four rear sensors and a beeper that speeds up as you close in; nothing on the screen. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most EcoSport owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Mk2: the Radio with a small display, or SYNC 1 with AppLink on Titanium cars; no touchscreen and no CarPlay stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
