Which route your Audi takes
Audi has used three generations of infotainment in the cars we see most, and each one gets CarPlay differently:
- MMI from about 2016 (MIB2) — A3 8V facelift, A4 and A5 B9, Q2, Q5 FY, Q7 4M. The CarPlay hardware is usually there and disabled. We enable it by coding: no parts, nothing removed, under an hour.
- MMI 2G, 3G and 3G+ (2005–2018) — A4 B8, A5, A6 C6 and C7, Q5 8R, Q7 4L. A CarPlay box goes behind the dash and shows CarPlay or Android Auto on the factory MMI screen. The MMI knob controls it, the original menus stay one click away.
- Concert, Chorus and Symphony radios — A1 8X, A3 8P, TT 8J and older A4. These take a car-specific Android screen with a matching fascia: wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera input, steering-wheel buttons kept.
- e-tron, Q4 e-tron and most 2020+ cars already have CarPlay from the factory. What owners usually want is wireless, and that is a plug-in adapter rather than an installation.

Years are the ones we fit most often; a car outside the range is usually fine too, we just check the connector first.
What changes on the dash
Nothing you would notice from the driver’s seat. Activation leaves the car exactly as it was. The CarPlay box hides behind the glovebox with one discreet USB lead; the MMI screen, knob, parking display and reverse camera stay factory. An Android screen comes with an Audi-shaped fascia, so there is no gap and no cut trim, and the climate panel stays physical. Bose and Bang & Olufsen systems keep their amplifier on every route.

- MMI activation — €150, under an hour, fully reversible.
- CarPlay box behind the factory screen — from €450 fitted (box €350, fitting €150 at checkout), two to four hours.
- Android screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto — units from €280 to €290 supply-only, fitting booked at checkout, two to three hours, same day.
