Audi A6 upgrades, generation by generation.

The C7 from 2011 to 2018, for the CarPlay box on the MMI 3G+ screen with a reversing camera through the same box, and for colour-matched parking sensors. C6 owners come for the box on MMI 2G High, and C8 owners for wireless adapters, front sensors and dash cams, as the car already has CarPlay.

Usually not. On the C7 a front sensor fault is most often one sensor or a chafed loom behind the bumper, and the MMI tells us which one. We read the fault, test each sensor and replace only what has failed, painted to the car's colour code, then clear the warning. Fitting a full aftermarket set on a car that already has factory PDC is the last resort.

Only the routing. The rear dash cam cable runs along the tailgate loom through the factory grommet so it survives the tailgate opening, and the camera sits in the tailgate handle. Everything else, the CarPlay box, activation, sensors and lighting, follows the same route as the saloon of the same year.

C6 (4F) — 2004–2011 (saloon, Avant and allroad): MMI 2G Basic with a small display, or MMI 2G High navigation with a 7-inch colour screen; Bose optional. C7 (4G) — 2011–2018 (saloon, Avant and allroad): MMI radio plus with a 6.5-inch screen or MMI navigation plus on MMI 3G+ to 2014; MIB2 with MMI touch from the 2015 facelift; Bose or Bang & Olufsen optional. C8 (4K) — 2018 on (saloon, Avant and allroad): MMI touch response with two touchscreens, MIB2+ on 2018–2020 cars and MIB3 from around 2021; Audi smartphone interface on most cars, wireless on MIB3. CarPlay: A box on the C6 and early C7, activation on MIB2 C7 cars, factory CarPlay or a wireless adapter on the C8. Car radio: Android screen with the MMI knob kept on the C6 and C7, upper-screen replacement on the C8. Reversing camera: Camera through the box on the C6 and C7, coded into the MMI on MIB2 C7 and C8 cars. Parking sensors: Front sensors coded into the MMI on the C7 and C8, colour-matched sensors on the C6. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits on the C6 and C7, extended ambient lighting on the C8. Dash cam: Hardwired from the driver's side fuse panel with a low-voltage cut-off. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Most A6 owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
