The 8X from 2010 to 2018, mostly for colour-matched parking sensors and for CarPlay, either a box behind the pop-up screen or an Android screen on Concert radio cars. GB owners come for activation of the smartphone interface, wireless adapters, dash cams and extended ambient lighting, because the car already has a touchscreen.

Yes. The box sits behind the dash and switches between the factory menus and CarPlay, so radio, navigation and the pop-up display work as before and the MMI knob and steering-wheel buttons control CarPlay too. Nothing is cut, and the car can go back to standard if you sell it.

It does. Speakers and subwoofers are wired into the factory amplifier, and an Android screen on the 8X is fitted with the adapter that keeps the Bose amplifier in play. On the GB the Bang & Olufsen system stays exactly as it is whether we add a subwoofer or upgrade the door speakers.

CarPlay: A CarPlay box or an Android screen on the 8X; activation or a wireless adapter on the GB. Car radio: Android screen in place of the Concert radio and pop-up display on the 8X. Reversing camera: Camera on the box, Android screen or mirror on the 8X; coded into the MMI on the GB. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kit on the 8X, extended ambient lighting on the GB. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors on the 8X, front or rear sensors coded into the MMI on the GB. Subwoofer: Under-seat woofer with a compact or DSP amplifier, no boot space lost. Dash cam: Hardwired from the driver's side fuse panel with a low-voltage cut-off. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers on both generations; Bose and Bang & Olufsen amplifiers stay. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most A1 owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
