Lexus IS upgrades, generation by generation.

The 2013–2020 XE30 IS 300h, for a CarPlay box behind the Remote Touch screen or an Android screen, and the 2005–2013 XE20 IS 220d and IS 250 for an Android screen with DAB and a camera. The odd IS 200 from the XE10 years still comes in for a screen to replace the cassette or CD unit.

Only the wiring. The 12 V battery on the IS 300h is in the boot and is small, so a dash cam with parking mode is wired from the fuse box with a low-voltage cut-off and never from the hybrid system. A reversing camera draws power only in reverse and shows on the factory screen through the CarPlay box or on the Android screen.

XE10 — 1999–2005 (saloon and SportCross estate): Factory radio and CD without a screen; a few cars have the Lexus navigation screen. XE20 — 2005–2013 (saloon and IS C convertible): Lexus radio with a small display, or Lexus Navigation with a 7-inch touchscreen; no CarPlay. XE30 — 2013–2020 (saloon): Lexus Display Audio 7-inch or Premium Navigation with the Remote Touch controller, 10.3-inch from the 2017 facelift; no CarPlay in Europe. Not sure? CarPlay: Android screen on the XE10 and radio-only XE20, a CarPlay box on navigation XE20 and XE30 cars. Car radio: Android screen with DAB and a camera input for the XE10, XE20 and 7-inch XE30 cars. Reversing camera: Camera on the factory screen where it supports it, a mirror monitor or Android screen where it does not. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors with a factory-style tone, shown on the screen where the car supports it. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most IS owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
