The 2015–2021 Sensus Connect car, almost always for wireless CarPlay, since the option was missed when new. The 2002–2014 P2 comes for Android screens and reversing cameras, and Google built-in cars from 2022 for dash cams, front sensors and wireless adapters. All three keep their factory audio.

Only for the dash cam, which is wired to the 12 V system through the fuse panel under the glovebox with a conservative cut-off; the high-voltage side is never touched. CarPlay boxes, adapters, cameras and sensors go in exactly as on the diesel and petrol cars, and take the same time.

Yes. On SPA cars nothing we fit touches the amplifier: the CarPlay box and cameras use the Sensus inputs, and Google built-in cars only get a plug-in adapter. On the P2 the Android screen connects to the Premium Sound amplifier through an adapter where the car has one, so all the speakers keep working and nothing is cut.

P2 — 2002–2014 (Seven-seat SUV): Volvo HU-series radio with no screen; RTI navigation with a pop-up screen in the dash top on some cars. Sensus SPA — 2015–2021: Sensus Connect with the 9-inch portrait touchscreen; CarPlay and Android Auto a factory option, wired only, that many cars were ordered without. CarPlay: Wireless box on Sensus Connect cars, wireless adapter on Google built-in cars, Android screen on the P2. Reversing camera: Camera in the tailgate handle: on the Android screen on the P2, coded into Sensus or Google on SPA cars. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse panel under the glovebox; 12 V side only on T8 and Recharge hybrids. Car radio: 9-inch Android screen in the HU position on the 2002–2014 P2; SPA cars keep their portrait screen. Parking sensors: Front park assist added to cars with rear sensors only, coded into the screen on SPA cars. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors, footwells and console on all three generations, colour from your phone. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Dash cam: one to two hours for a front camera, about two with a rear camera. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Most XC90 owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
