“Where can I get a dash cam fitted cheaply in Ireland?” The cheapest published fitting is labour only. The cheapest ways to get a dash cam fitted in Ireland
1. Buy a camera and plug it in yourself. The cheapest fit is no fit: a camera on the 12V socket with the cable tucked into the headlining. A front-and-rear camera costs €35.94 on Amazon without a memory card, and a DDPAI N1 Dual €67.57 on AliExpress (prices seen on 9 October 2026). We sell the 70mai M310 2K on its own for €70, plus €20 delivery anywhere in Ireland. Which? tested 33 dash cams in February 2026 and made eleven Don’t Buys over security; one failed to record clearly by day or night. Parcels from outside the EU pay import VAT and, since 1 July 2026, a €3 customs duty per item.
2. Labour-only fitting of your own camera. Radio Masters in Dublin lists €90 to fit a customer’s front camera and €130 for front and back, or €70 and €110 when you buy the camera from them (a 70mai A400 is €180 there). Auto Electrical Services in Bandon fits your own camera for €80 front or €120 front and rear. Halfords Ireland lists €90 front and €120 front and rear with the camera extra, which we cover in detail in Halfords dash cam fitting in Ireland. We charge €100 an hour, usually one to two hours.
3. A mobile fitter. A DoneDeal ad offers a mirror dash cam with front and rear cameras supplied and fitted “start from €230”, with a €40 call-out that may apply. The ad does not mention hardwiring, parking mode or a memory card.
4. Supplied and fitted at a workshop. LK Autos lists “Dash cam Supplied and Fitted” at €170, hardwired. Car Alarm Ireland lists a Voyager S2600 fitted at €249.70, an S2500 at €261.05 and a hardwire kit fitted at €110, and notes that parking mode needs “a special power cable”. The Cork workshop lists €225 installed for a front camera and €330 for front and rear, hardwired with parking mode and a 12-month warranty. ICE Systems lists a Thinkware F70 Pro at €295, a Q200 at €350 front and €650 front and rear, and a BlackVue Elite 10 from €1,095, including VAT and installation, with parking mode at extra cost.
5. Radio King. From €180 plug-in and €250 hardwired with parking mode; the details are below.
What the cheap price usually leaves out
A front dash cam is a simple job. The price changes with parking mode and with how the camera gets its power.
- Parking mode and the battery. Recording while parked needs power with the ignition off. Some cameras offer parking mode over the USB lead, and a DashCamTalk forum post warns that this has “no voltage cut-off” and “may fully drain your car battery”. A hardwire kit has a cut-off, usually adjustable from 11.8 to 12.4 V, and users on the same forum advise 12.2 V or higher. On the published lists above, one price includes parking mode, one sells the hardwire kit fitted at €110 and one charges extra for it. Ask before you compare.
- Fuse and ignition. A hardwired camera takes power from the fuse box through a fuse tap. The NCT manual treats after-market items “not being wired through ignition switch or a fuse” as a major defect (4.11(g)), and “unsuitable wiring” such as bell wire as another (4.11(h)). The tap has to sit in a slot of the right rating, the right way round, with a proper earth.
- Where the camera sits. Under NCT item 3.1, an object that materially affects your view is a minor defect outside the wiper area and a major one inside it. High, behind the mirror, is the place.
- The cable and the airbags. Many cars have curtain airbags along the A-pillar and roof lining. The cable runs behind the airbag, not across it, and the pillar trim has clips that break if they are levered off with a screwdriver.
- The rear camera. Front and rear means a cable the length of the car, through the headlining and, on a hatchback or estate, the rubber boot between body and tailgate. That is the slow part.
- The memory card. The €35.94 camera above comes without one, and a dash cam rewrites its card all day. A card that fails quietly gives you a camera that looks fine and records nothing.
- Who answers for what. With labour-only fitting, the fitter answers for the fitting and the seller for the camera. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, when one business sells and fits the camera, a bad installation is a fault in the goods. Buy from outside the EU and, the CCPC warns, you have fewer protections and no small claims process.
Buy cheap, buy twice: the real cost
An old saying we keep coming back to: only the rich can afford to buy cheap. With dash cams, the costly way for a cheap job to go wrong is parking mode, because the camera either was not recording when it mattered or it flattened the battery.
| Example | Route A: cheapest | Route B: done once |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Front and rear online, €35.94, no memory card | Supplied with the job |
| Fitting | Labour only, front and rear, €120 to €130 | Included |
| Parking mode | On the USB lead, no cut-off | Hardwire kit with low-voltage cut-off |
| First winter (example) | Flat battery on a cold morning, or no footage when it mattered | Covered by warranty |
| Second job | Front and rear hardwired with parking mode, €330 to €340 | Not needed |
| Total | €485.94 to €505.94, plus a memory card | €330 to €340 |
This is an example, not a forecast; many cheap cameras record faithfully for years. But a camera bought to catch whoever dents your door in a car park has to be awake when it happens, and the battery still has to start the car.
When the cheap option is perfectly fine
- You only want to record while driving. A plug-in camera on a 12V socket that switches off with the ignition cannot drain the battery.
- You own a good camera and pay for labour-only fitting with a proper hardwire kit and cut-off.
- An older car you plan to sell within the year.
Before you book, ask two things: what voltage the cut-off is set to, and which fuse the tap goes in.
