On Sensus Connect cars (2017–2021) plug an iPhone into the USB port under the armrest: if a CarPlay tile appears, the option is there and only a wireless adapter is needed. If nothing happens, the option was not ordered and we fit our wireless CarPlay box on the portrait screen. Google built-in cars gained CarPlay with a 2022 update, so on those we check the software version first.
Is there Android Auto on the XC40 with Google built-in?
No. Volvo's Google built-in cars run Google Maps, Assistant and Play apps natively and do not offer Android Auto phone projection, and that is not something we can add. Apple users get wired CarPlay after the 2022 update and we add a wireless adapter. On Sensus Connect cars (2017–2021) Android Auto is part of our wireless box, or of the factory option where fitted.
How much does CarPlay cost on a Volvo XC40?
It depends on the generation. Sensus CMA (2017–2021): from €450; Google CMA (2020 on): from €150. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.

Sensus CMA: the Sensus Connect with the 9-inch portrait touchscreen; CarPlay and Android Auto were a factory option on many cars, wired only and its controls stay; the box sits behind the trim and is switched from the factory buttons. Google CMA: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.
