ZE1 Japanese imports, by a distance, because so many 40 kWh Leafs in Ireland came in used from Japan with a Japanese nav. Irish ZE0 cars come for an Android screen to replace the Connect EV unit. Irish ZE1 cars mostly want a wireless CarPlay adapter and nothing else.

The Leaf's 12 V battery is small and only charges when the car is on or plugged in, so anything we add is wired to switch off with the car, with a low-voltage cut-off wherever a parking mode is wanted. We never touch the high-voltage side. An Android screen draws no more than the factory unit it replaces.

ZE0 — 2011–2017: Nissan Connect EV 7-inch touchscreen with CarWings on Acenta and Tekna; a radio with a small display on Visia; Japanese imports carry the Japanese-market nav. ZE1 — 2018 on: NissanConnect 8-inch touchscreen with CarPlay and Android Auto on Irish and UK cars; Japanese imports have a Japanese NissanConnect nav, often without CarPlay. Not sure? CarPlay: Android screen on the ZE0 and on Japanese imports, factory CarPlay plus a wireless adapter on Irish ZE1 cars. Car radio: Android screen made for the Leaf dash, mainly on the ZE0 and on Japanese-import ZE1 cars. Reversing camera: Factory-look camera on the factory screen with guidelines, coded in where the car supports it. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors with a factory-style tone, shown on the screen where the car supports it. Dash cam: Hardwired on the 12 V side with a cut-off for the small 12 V battery, parking mode included. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most Leaf owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
