Nissan Qashqai upgrades, generation by generation.

The J11 from 2014 to 2021, mostly for CarPlay, front parking sensors and dash cams. J10 cars come for Android screens, because the CD radio has no display and the Connect nav is dated. J12 owners usually want a wireless CarPlay adapter, front sensors on the lower trims and a hardwired dash cam.

The Nissan Connect units in J10 and early J11 cars can ask for a four-digit code after the battery has been disconnected. The code is on a card in the handbook wallet, or Nissan can supply it from the serial number on the unit. We do not bypass the lock, but if the unit is faulty rather than locked, an Android screen replaces it and the problem goes with it.

Yes. The seven-seat Qashqai+2 shares the J10 dashboard, radio and wiring, so the Android screen, camera and sensor routes are identical. The only difference is the longer body: the reversing camera cable and the rear sensor loom run a little further, and a boot enclosure for a subwoofer has to fit around the third row.

CarPlay: Android screen on the J10 and early J11, factory CarPlay from late 2018 and on every J12. Car radio: Android screen with a Qashqai fascia on the J10 and J11; the J12 keeps its NissanConnect. Dash cam: Hardwired from the driver's footwell fuse box with a cut-off; 12 V side only on e-Power. Parking sensors: Colour-matched rear sensors on the J10, front sensors added on the J11 and J12. Reversing camera: Camera on the factory screen where it has an input, otherwise on the Android screen. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits on the J10 and J11, extended ambient light on the J12. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters; Bose cars keep the factory amplifier. Subwoofer: Under-seat subwoofer or boot enclosure, DSP amplifier on Bose cars. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Dash cam: one to two hours for a front camera, about two with a rear camera. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Most Qashqai owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
