The X156 from 2014 to 2020, nearly always for the wireless CarPlay box on the NTG4.5 screen, often with an ambient lighting kit in the same visit. H247 owners mostly want wireless CarPlay on a car that already has it wired, the box where the Smartphone Integration pack was never ordered, and the footwells and door pockets added to the factory ambient system.

Mechanically yes: the X156 shares its platform and head units with the W176 A-Class of the same years, so the CarPlay box and lighting routes are identical, and the H247 matches the W177 in the same way, including the GLA 250e plug-in hybrid. The only difference is the trim shapes the lighting strips follow, and we have done both.

X156 — 2014–2020: Audio 20 on NTG4.5 with the 5.8 or 7-inch pod screen; the 2017 facelift brought the 8-inch display, and CarPlay was an option on some cars from 2017. H247 — 2020 on: MBUX (NTG6) with the 7 or 10.25-inch touchscreen; CarPlay and Android Auto on most cars, as the Smartphone Integration pack on early ones. Not sure? CarPlay: A wireless CarPlay box on the X156, wireless CarPlay or a box on the H247 MBUX. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kit on the X156, extended 64-colour ambient lighting on the H247. Reversing camera: Factory-look camera on the factory screen with guidelines, coded in where the car supports it. Car radio: Larger Android screen with the factory buttons and amplifier kept, where the original display is too small. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Four sensors in the rear bumper with a buzzer that beeps faster; sound only. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Most GLA owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
