GD cars from 2012 to 2017 with the basic radio, nearly always for the Android screen with wireless CarPlay, often with a reversing camera at the same time. FD owners come for the same screen. PD owners mostly want front parking sensors, a camera on the factory screen or a wireless adapter for the wired navigation.

Only at the back. The dashboard, radio and screen are shared with the hatch on each generation, so the Android screen, CarPlay and sensor work is identical. On the Tourer the camera cable runs through the tailgate grommet and on the Fastback the camera sits in the boot-lid handle, which changes the fitting slightly but not the result.

FD — 2007–2012 (hatch and estate): CD radio with no screen; Bluetooth on later cars, factory navigation rare. GD — 2012–2017 (hatch, Tourer estate and three-door Coupe): Radio with a small display, Bluetooth and USB on most cars; 7-inch touchscreen navigation on higher trims, without CarPlay. PD — 2017 on (hatch, Tourer and Fastback): 5-inch display audio without CarPlay on base 2017–2020 cars; 8-inch navigation with CarPlay and Android Auto on most; 8-inch display audio with wireless CarPlay or 10.25-inch navigation after the 2020 facelift. CarPlay: Android screen on FD, GD and base PD cars; a wireless adapter on PD cars with the factory touchscreen. Car radio: A 9-inch Android screen in place of the radio on FD, GD and base PD cars, fascia matched to each dash. Parking sensors: Front or rear sensors colour-matched with a factory-style tone on every i30 generation. Reversing camera: Camera in the tailgate handle on the factory screen, the Android screen or a mirror monitor. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Most i30 owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
