Hyundai drew a clean line in 2019
Unlike most makes, Hyundai is easy: from about 2019 CarPlay and Android Auto came as standard across the range, and before roughly 2016 nothing had them at all. The years between are the only ones worth checking — the 8-inch touchscreen with the Hyundai tile menu has CarPlay, the 5-inch screen with hard buttons around it does not.
If your Hyundai falls on the older side — an i10, i20, i30, i40, ix35 or Tucson with the CD radio — there is no software route, so a car-specific Android screen replaces the unit: wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in navigation, the factory camera carried over and a fascia shaped for the dash. If it falls on the newer side and the CarPlay is wired, a plug-in adapter makes it wireless and that is the whole job.

What changes on the dash
The Hyundai radio comes out with its bracket and the new screen goes back on the same bracket behind a moulded fascia, so there is no gap and no cut trim. Power, speakers, camera, antenna and the CAN lines come through the factory plugs — nothing spliced — so the steering-wheel buttons and the cluster display keep working. The climate panel on these cars is separate and stays physical. We keep the original radio in the box, so the car can go back to standard at resale.
