If it is a 2017 or later F20 with NBT Evo — the tiled menu — the CarPlay function is usually in the car and switched off, and we enable it by coding in under an hour. 2011 to 2016 cars with CIC or NBT never had it in the software, so those get a CarPlay box on the factory screen. Yes. The Business radio has no screen, so the route is a car-specific Android screen in the factory position: wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB, a reverse camera input, and the steering-wheel buttons kept. On E87 cars with the Professional navigation we use a CarPlay box on the factory screen instead.

It depends on the generation. E81 / E87 (2004–2013): from €350; F20 / F21 (2011–2019): from €250; F40 (2019–2024): from €450. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.

E81 / E87, built 2004–2013 (Business CD radio without a screen, or Professional navigation with CCC iDrive to 2008 and CIC iDrive from 2009): CarPlay box behind the factory screen on CCC and CIC cars; an Android screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto where the car has the Business radio. F20 / F21, built 2011–2019 (Business radio with a 6.5-inch screen, CIC iDrive on early cars, NBT from 2013 and NBT Evo (ID5/ID6) from 2017): Coding activation on NBT Evo cars from 2017; a CarPlay box on the factory screen for CIC and NBT cars from 2011 to 2016. F40, built 2019–2024 (iDrive 7 (ID7) with an 8.8 or 10.25-inch touchscreen; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory): Factory CarPlay is already there; we sort wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and region and map changes on imported cars.

E81 / E87: two to four hours; F20 / F21: under an hour; F40: about an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the 1 Series in the morning and collect it the same day.

F20 / F21: nothing physical changes — the Business radio with a 6.5-inch screen, CIC iDrive on early cars, NBT from 2013 and NBT Evo (ID5/ID6) from 2017 stays and the CarPlay tile simply appears. F40: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.
