Yes. The BMW-specific units plug into the iDrive controller and the steering-wheel buttons, so you scroll, click and go back exactly as before, and touch works too. On F20 cars with Harman Kardon the unit is fitted with the optical adapter, so the factory amplifier and every speaker stay in play.

It depends on the generation. E81 / E87 (2004–2013): from €290; F20 / F21 (2011–2019): from €290. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.

E81 / E87, built 2004–2013 (Business CD radio without a screen, or Professional navigation with CCC iDrive to 2008 and CIC iDrive from 2009): 10.25-inch Android screen in the factory position with a matching fascia; the iDrive controller keeps working where fitted, camera input and DAB included. F20 / F21, built 2011–2019 (Business radio with a 6.5-inch screen, CIC iDrive on early cars, NBT from 2013 and NBT Evo (ID5/ID6) from 2017): 10.25-inch Android screen replaces the 6.5 or 8.8-inch display; iDrive knob and steering buttons retained, optical adapter for Harman Kardon cars.

Two to three hours, usually the same day on the BMW 1 Series E81 and F20. You can wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

On every 1 Series we work on — E81 and F20 — the steering-wheel buttons, the factory amplifier and speakers, the reverse camera and the climate controls stay; the new unit adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB and a camera input.
