BMW Android Screen & Car Radio Upgrade in Dublin

Radio King upgrades BMW screens in Dublin with an Android unit made for the car: a 10.25 or 12.3-inch display in the factory position, driven by the original iDrive controller, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera input and the Harman Kardon system kept. For 1, 3 and 5 Series, X1, X3, X5 and i3 from about 2009. Units from €700 supply-only, fitted in two to three hours in Dublin 11.

A bigger screen that still feels like a BMW

The complaint we hear from BMW owners is not that the iDrive is bad — it is that the screen is small and there is no CarPlay or Android Auto. The BMW Android units solve exactly that: a 10.25 or 12.3-inch display that sits in the factory position with a matching bezel, driven by the iDrive controller you already know, with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Maps, Waze, Spotify and YouTube. The BMW menus stay one click away, the steering-wheel buttons work, and the reverse camera and PDC show on the new screen.

If your BMW is a 2016 or newer car with NBT EVO, you usually do not need any of this: CarPlay can be switched on in the factory screen by coding. That is on our BMW CarPlay page.

What the fitting involves on a BMW

The BMW units are built for the car, so the job is mostly connectors rather than wiring: the quadlock plug for power and CAN, the iDrive controller lead, and on amplified cars the fibre-optic adapter that keeps the Harman Kardon or Hi-Fi amplifier in the loop. The factory screen and its bezel come out, the new screen goes in on the same brackets, and the dash top is not cut. We keep the original screen in the box for you, so the car can go back to standard at resale.

Prices

  • 5 Series F10 12.3-inch screen — €700 supply-only, fitting booked at checkout.
  • Other models — quoted from the VIN, because the screen size, iDrive generation and amplifier change the unit.
  • Reverse camera at the same visit — ask, it shares the fitting time.

Why Radio King

Seven years of BMW screens, a demo unit on the stand so you can see the iDrive control working before you buy, and a one-year warranty on the unit and the fitting. 4.8 stars on Google, workshop at Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11.

FAQ

BMW car radio: questions people ask.

Ask on WhatsApp
Does the iDrive controller still work with an Android screen?

Yes. The BMW-specific units plug into the iDrive controller and the steering-wheel buttons, so you scroll, click and go back exactly as before. Touch works as well. The factory BMW menus — vehicle settings, climate display on cars that show it on screen — remain available from the same unit.

Will my Harman Kardon or Hi-Fi system keep working?

Yes. Amplified BMWs carry the sound on a fibre-optic loop, and the unit is fitted with the optical adapter that keeps the factory amplifier and every speaker in play. We confirm which system the car has from the VIN before it comes in.

Which BMWs does it fit?

Cars with CCC, CIC or NBT iDrive, roughly 2005 to 2016: 1 Series E87 and F20, 3 Series E90 and F30, 5 Series E60 and F10, X1 E84, X3 E83 and F25, X5 E70 and F15, i3. Newer NBT EVO cars usually do not need a new screen — CarPlay can be activated on the factory one, see our BMW CarPlay page.

Does the new unit have DAB?

The units we stock do not include a DAB tuner. Every Irish and UK station streams through apps over the unit's SIM slot or your phone, which is what most BMW owners end up using. If DAB is a must for you, tell us before you order.

Does the reverse camera and PDC display carry over?

Yes. The factory reverse camera and parking distance display show on the new screen, and if the car has no camera we can add one at the same visit.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

Two to three hours, usually the same day. The 5 Series F10 unit is €700 supply-only; other models are confirmed from the VIN. Fitting is booked at checkout, and there is a one-year warranty on the unit and the work.
