A wireless CarPlay interface went in behind the factory screen, so the original screen, radio, settings and steering wheel buttons all work exactly as before, and the module adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as one more source on the same screen. Nothing on the car was cut: the interface plugs into the existing connectors, and if it is ever removed the BMW X5 returns to stock with no trace.
