BMW 3 Series CarPlay installation, generation by generation.

F30, F31 and F34 cars from 2017 to 2019 with NBT Evo — the tiled iDrive menu. The CarPlay function is usually in the software and switched off, and we enable it with manufacturer-level tools in under an hour, no parts. 2012 to 2016 cars with CIC or NBT need a CarPlay box on the factory screen instead.

Two. E90 cars with the Professional navigation (CCC or CIC) get a CarPlay box that feeds CarPlay and Android Auto into the factory screen, controlled from the iDrive knob. Cars with the Business CD radio have no screen, so they get a 10.25-inch Android screen in the factory position with wireless CarPlay, DAB and a camera input.

It depends on the generation. E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 (2005–2013): from €350; F30 / F31 / F34 (2012–2019): from €250; G20 / G21 (2019 on): from €450. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.

E90 / E91 / E92 / E93, built 2005–2013 (Business CD radio without a screen, or Professional navigation with CCC iDrive to 2008 and CIC iDrive on LCI cars from late 2008): CarPlay box on the factory screen for CCC and CIC cars; an Android screen with wireless CarPlay where the car has the Business radio. F30 / F31 / F34, built 2012–2019 (6.5-inch Business screen or 8.8-inch Professional: CIC on 2012 cars, NBT from 2013, NBT Evo (ID5/ID6) from 2017): Coding activation on NBT Evo cars from 2017; a CarPlay box on CIC and NBT cars from 2012 to 2016. G20 / G21, built 2019 on (iDrive 7 (ID7) with a 10.25-inch touchscreen; iDrive 8 from the 2022 facelift; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory): Factory CarPlay; we handle wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and region and map changes on imported cars.

E90 / E91 / E92 / E93: two to four hours; F30 / F31 / F34: under an hour; G20 / G21: about an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the 3 Series in the morning and collect it the same day.

E90 / E91 / E92 / E93: the Business CD radio without a screen, or Professional navigation with CCC iDrive to 2008 and CIC iDrive on LCI cars from late 2008 and its controls stay; the box sits behind the trim and is switched from the factory buttons. F30 / F31 / F34: nothing physical changes — the 6.5-inch Business screen or 8.8-inch Professional: CIC on 2012 cars, NBT from 2013, NBT Evo (ID5/ID6) from 2017 stays and the CarPlay tile simply appears. G20 / G21: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.
