No. Everything we fit runs from the small 12 V battery that powers the screen, lights and locks, the same as on a petrol car. The traction battery, the charger and the orange high-voltage wiring are never opened. Screens and adapters draw a few milliamps at rest, well within what the 12 V system on a ZOE allows.

The 2012 to 2019 car with R-Link, because it has no CarPlay at all and the TomTom maps are out of date, so the Android screen with wireless CarPlay is the usual job. Ex-lease ZE50 cars come for a wireless adapter and help pairing a second phone. Both are done at the Dublin 11 workshop while you wait or over a morning.

CarPlay: Our Android screen in place of R-Link on 2012–2019 cars, a wireless adapter on the ZE50 with Easy Link. Reversing camera: Factory-look camera on the factory screen with guidelines, coded in where the car supports it. Car radio: Larger Android screen with the factory buttons and amplifier kept, where the original display is too small. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Four sensors in the rear bumper with a buzzer that beeps faster; sound only. Dash cam: Hardwired on the 12 V side with a cut-off for the small 12 V battery, parking mode included. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most ZOE owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
