Subaru · Impreza

Subaru Impreza upgrades, generation by generation.

Radio King upgrades the Subaru Impreza by generation: the GD and GG get an Android screen in a double-DIN fascia, the GE, GH, GP and GJ an Android screen in the factory opening, and the GT and GK have CarPlay on the 8-inch Starlink, which we usually leave alone. Send your reg and we confirm what fits.

FAQ

Subaru Impreza: questions people ask.

Ask on WhatsApp
Which Impreza do you see most?

GD and GG cars, bugeye to hawkeye, for a double-DIN Android screen with CarPlay, and Japanese-import GP and GJ cars with a Japanese unit. GE and GH hatches come for the same screen, and GT and GK owners mostly for a failed reversing camera or a dash cam.

Does the WRX STI count as an Impreza here?

For the older cars, yes: the GD, GG and the GR and GV WRX and STI share the Impreza dashboard, so the same screens, fascias and camera routes apply. The 2014-on WRX is a separate model, though its Starlink units follow the same pattern as the GT and GK Impreza.

Which Subaru Impreza generation do I have?

GD / GG — 2000–2007: Single-DIN CD radio with a pocket beneath on most cars, 6-CD on WRX and STI; no factory screen. GE / GH — 2007–2014: CD radio with a small display in a double-DIN opening; a Kenwood-built touchscreen nav on some WRX STI cars. GP / GJ — 2012–2016: CD radio with a small display on 2012–2014 cars; 7-inch Starlink touchscreen on later cars, without CarPlay; Japanese imports carry a Japanese unit. GT / GK — 2017–2023: Starlink 8-inch touchscreen with CarPlay and Android Auto on every trim; e-Boxer on 2020-on cars. Not sure? Send the reg on WhatsApp and we tell you the generation and the route.

What does Radio King fit on a Subaru Impreza?

Car radio: Double-DIN Android screen on the GD, GG, GE, GH, GP and GJ; the GT and GK keep their Starlink. Reversing camera: Tailgate or boot-lid camera on the Android screen, the Starlink input or a mirror monitor. CarPlay: Android screen on cars without a usable screen, a CarPlay box or activation on cars with one. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Four sensors in the rear bumper with a buzzer that beeps faster; sound only. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

How long do jobs on a Subaru Impreza take?

Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Reversing camera: two to three hours. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most Impreza owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Do you keep the factory system on a Subaru Impreza?

GD / GG: the Single-DIN CD radio with a pocket beneath on most cars, 6-CD on WRX and STI; no factory screen stays and we add to it. GE / GH: the CD radio with a small display in a double-DIN opening; a Kenwood-built touchscreen nav on some WRX STI cars stays and we add to it. GP / GJ: the CD radio with a small display on 2012–2014 cars; 7-inch Starlink touchscreen on later cars, without CarPlay; Japanese imports carry a Japanese unit stays and we add to it. GT / GK: the Starlink 8-inch touchscreen with CarPlay and Android Auto on every trim; e-Boxer on 2020-on cars stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
