Radio King does head unit upgrade on every Subaru Impreza generation we see: GD / GG (2000–2007): Android screen in a double-DIN fascia that replaces the single-DIN radio and its pocket; a Subaru harness keeps it plug-in; GE / GH (2007–2014): Android screen with the GE/GH fascia replacing the CD radio or the nav; steering-wheel buttons kept, DAB and camera input included; GP / GJ (2012–2016): Android screen in place of the CD radio, the 7-inch Starlink or the Japanese unit on imports, with the factory camera carried over where fitted; GT / GK (2017–2023): The 8-inch Starlink already has CarPlay and Android Auto, so most keep it; a 9-inch Android screen with a Subaru fascia is possible where an owner wants built-in navigation. Yes. GD and GG cars have a single-DIN radio with a pocket beneath, and a double-DIN fascia for the Impreza replaces both, so an Android screen with DAB, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto goes in without cutting the dash. A Subaru harness keeps the factory speakers, and WRX and STI cars with the 6-CD unit are no different. The GE, GH, GP and GJ already have a double-DIN opening.
Is it worth replacing the Starlink unit in a 2017-on Impreza?
Usually not. The 8-inch Starlink in the GT and GK has CarPlay and Android Auto, so a cable or a wireless adapter gets most owners what they want. We fit a 9-inch Android screen only where someone wants built-in navigation or a larger display, and on Japanese imports whose unit has Japanese menus and misses most Irish FM stations.
