On the BL and BP, yes: the McIntosh amplifier takes a line-level signal and a switch-on feed from the new screen through an adapter, so the factory amp and speakers keep playing at the right balance. On the BE and BH it depends on the car; where no adapter exists the amplifier is bypassed and the screen drives the speakers directly, which we tell you before booking.

The Japanese FM band stops at 95 MHz at best and Irish stations run to 108, so an imported B4 or Touring Wagon misses most of them and has no DAB. The Android screen brings a European tuner, DAB, English menus and wireless CarPlay in one job, in the same double-DIN opening the Japanese unit came out of.

BE / BH, built 1998–2003 (Subaru radio-cassette or CD radio in a double-DIN opening on most cars; McIntosh audio on some Japanese B4 and GT-B imports): Android screen in the double-DIN opening with a Subaru harness; McIntosh imports keep the amplifier through an adapter where one exists, otherwise the amplifier is bypassed. BL / BP, built 2003–2009 (6-CD Subaru radio in the double-DIN opening; Kenwood-built nav on some 3.0R spec.B cars; McIntosh amplifier and speakers on many Japanese imports): Android screen with the BL/BP fascia in place of the 6-CD radio or the nav; the McIntosh system on Japanese imports keeps its amplifier with the right adapter, and the Japanese radio band goes with the old unit. BM / BR, built 2009–2014 (CD radio with a small display; Kenwood-built touchscreen nav on SE NavPlus cars; a factory premium amplifier on some Japanese imports): Android screen with the steering-wheel buttons kept and the Kenwood nav's camera moved across; an amplifier adapter where the car has a factory amplifier.

Two to three hours, usually the same day on the Subaru Legacy BE, BL and BM. You can wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
