Suzuki Vitara upgrades, generation by generation.

The 2015–2018 Vitara and the 2019 facelift, for a wireless adapter on the SLDA screen, front parking sensors and a camera on the trims that came without one. The 2005–2014 Grand Vitara comes in for an Android screen with wireless CarPlay and DAB to replace the CD radio, usually with a tailgate camera.

Not at the dash: the 2020 on mild hybrid uses the same SLDA unit, fascia and wiring as the petrol car, so the wireless adapter, camera and sensors fit the same way. The 48 V system is separate from the 12 V side we work on, so a dash cam is wired from the fuse box with a low-voltage cut-off as on any other Vitara.

JT — 2005–2014 (three and five-door): Factory CD radio without a screen; a navigation unit on some late cars. LY — 2015–2018 (five-door): 7-inch SLDA touchscreen on SZ-T and SZ5 with CarPlay, Android Auto on most 2017 and later units; a CD radio on the SZ4. CarPlay: Android screen on the Grand Vitara, wireless adapter or screen on the 2015 on Vitara with SLDA. Parking sensors: Front sensors added to the 2015 on Vitara, rear sensors clear of the spare wheel on the Grand Vitara. Reversing camera: Tailgate camera on the Android screen, the SLDA input or the factory unit. Car radio: Car-specific Android screen with wireless CarPlay, DAB and camera input, factory controls kept. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Parking sensors: two to three hours for one end, about half a day for front and rear. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Most Vitara owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
