Radio King adds CarPlay to the Mazda MX-5 by generation: the NC gets an Android screen in the double-DIN slot with the Bose amplifier kept, early ND cars with MZD Connect take the CarPlay retrofit kit, and later ND cars already have CarPlay, so we add a wireless adapter. Send your reg and we confirm what fits.
The head unit decides the route, and it changed with every generation. Find your years, then pick the service above for what we fit and from what price.
| Generation | Years | Body | Factory system |
|---|---|---|---|
| NC Third generation | 2005–2015 | Soft-top roadster and Roadster Coupé with the folding hard top | CD radio in a double-DIN slot with no screen, Bose on the Sport; factory navigation on some late cars; Japanese-import Roadsters carry a Japanese unit |
| ND Fourth generation | 2015–2018 | Soft-top roadster and RF with the retractable hard top | MZD Connect with a 7-inch screen and the Commander knob; Bose with headrest speakers on higher trims |
| ND2 / ND3 Fourth generation update | 2019 on | Soft-top roadster and RF | MZD Connect 7-inch with CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory; Mazda Connect with an 8.8-inch screen on 2024 and later cars |
Generation-by-generation guides first — the MX-5 jobs we see most. The rest of the workshop's services are done on every Mazda too.
Real Mazda cars from the Dublin 11 workshop — MX-5 first, then the rest of the range: what was fitted and what changed on the dash.
Car-specific screens, CarPlay boxes and activations for Mazda: supply-only with delivery across Ireland, or fitted at our Dublin 11 workshop.

Ask on WhatsAppThe ND from 2015 to 2018 for the CarPlay retrofit kit, and NC cars for an Android screen, a good share of them Japanese-import Roadsters. Later ND owners mostly want a wireless adapter so the phone connects as soon as the roof is down.
Yes. The retrofit kit sits behind the MZD Connect screen and does not touch the audio side, so the Bose amplifier and the headrest speakers carry on exactly as before. On the NC an Android screen is wired through an adapter that feeds the Bose amplifier, so nothing is lost there either.
NC — 2005–2015 (Soft-top roadster and Roadster Coupé with the folding hard top): CD radio in a double-DIN slot with no screen, Bose on the Sport; factory navigation on some late cars; Japanese-import Roadsters carry a Japanese unit. ND — 2015–2018 (Soft-top roadster and RF with the retractable hard top): MZD Connect with a 7-inch screen and the Commander knob; Bose with headrest speakers on higher trims. ND2 / ND3 — 2019 on (Soft-top roadster and RF): MZD Connect 7-inch with CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory; Mazda Connect with an 8.8-inch screen on 2024 and later cars. Not sure? Send the reg on WhatsApp and we tell you the generation and the route.
CarPlay: Android screen on the NC, Mazda retrofit kit on early ND cars, wireless adapter on 2019 and later cars. Reversing camera: Camera on the factory screen where it supports it, a mirror monitor or Android screen where it does not. Car radio: Car-specific Android screen with wireless CarPlay, DAB and camera input, factory controls kept. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors with a factory-style tone, shown on the screen where the car supports it. Dash cam: Hardwired from the fuse box with parking mode and a low-voltage cut-off, cables hidden. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.
CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most MX-5 owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
NC: the CD radio in a double-DIN slot with no screen, Bose on the Sport; factory navigation on some late cars; Japanese-import Roadsters carry a Japanese unit stays and we add to it. ND: the MZD Connect with a 7-inch screen and the Commander knob; Bose with headrest speakers on higher trims stays and we add to it. ND2 / ND3: the MZD Connect 7-inch with CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory; Mazda Connect with an 8.8-inch screen on 2024 and later cars stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
Send the reg or the year on WhatsApp or the form below and we confirm the generation, the route, the price and the next free slot. Every job carries a one-year warranty on the work, done at our workshop in Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11, Monday to Saturday.
