Radio King upgrades the Mazda 3 by generation: BK and BL cars get an Android screen in place of the CD radio, BM and BN cars with MZD Connect get the CarPlay retrofit kit, and the BP already has CarPlay, so the work is cameras, sensors and dash cams. Send your reg and we confirm the route.
The head unit decides the route, and it changed with every generation. Find your years, then pick the service above for what we fit and from what price.
| Generation | Years | Body | Factory system |
|---|---|---|---|
| BK First generation | 2003–2009 | Five-door hatch and four-door saloon | CD radio built into the dashboard, Bose on the Sport trim; no screen |
| BL Second generation | 2009–2013 | Five-door hatch and four-door saloon | CD radio with a small display strip above the vents; TomTom navigation on some facelift cars; Bose on higher trims |
| BM / BN Third generation | 2013–2019 | Five-door hatch and four-door saloon | MZD Connect with a 7-inch screen and the Commander knob; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory on late 2018 and 2019 cars only |
| BP Fourth generation | 2019 on | Five-door hatch and four-door saloon | Mazda Connect with an 8.8-inch screen and the Commander knob; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory, wireless CarPlay on later cars |
Generation-by-generation guides first — the 3 jobs we see most. The rest of the workshop's services are done on every Mazda too.
Real Mazda cars from the Dublin 11 workshop — 3 first, then the rest of the range: what was fitted and what changed on the dash.
Car-specific screens, CarPlay boxes and activations for Mazda: supply-only with delivery across Ireland, or fitted at our Dublin 11 workshop.

Ask on WhatsAppThe BM and BN from 2013 to 2019, nearly always for the CarPlay retrofit kit on MZD Connect, and a fair number of Japanese-import Axelas that get an Android screen instead. BL owners come for Android screens and cameras, BP owners for dash cams, front sensors and wireless CarPlay.
Yes. Bose cars have a separate amplifier and a boot subwoofer, and both stay in place whether we fit the CarPlay kit, an Android screen or new speakers. The Android screen is wired through an adapter that talks to the Bose amplifier, so every speaker keeps playing and the fade and balance still work.
Mostly, but not for CarPlay. The Japanese MZD Connect unit does not take the European retrofit kit, so on an import the CarPlay route is an Android screen in the factory position. Cameras, sensors, dash cams and speakers are the same job on either car. Changing the dashboard language is a separate service.
BK — 2003–2009 (Five-door hatch and four-door saloon): CD radio built into the dashboard, Bose on the Sport trim; no screen. BL — 2009–2013 (Five-door hatch and four-door saloon): CD radio with a small display strip above the vents; TomTom navigation on some facelift cars; Bose on higher trims. BM / BN — 2013–2019 (Five-door hatch and four-door saloon): MZD Connect with a 7-inch screen and the Commander knob; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory on late 2018 and 2019 cars only. BP — 2019 on (Five-door hatch and four-door saloon): Mazda Connect with an 8.8-inch screen and the Commander knob; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory, wireless CarPlay on later cars. Not sure? Send the reg on WhatsApp and we tell you the generation and the route.
CarPlay: Mazda retrofit kit on MZD Connect, an Android screen on BK and BL, factory CarPlay on the BP. Reversing camera: Camera on the MZD Connect or Mazda Connect screen, on the Android screen or a mirror monitor on older cars. Car radio: Android screen with a matching fascia on the BK and BL; Commander knob kept on the BM and BN. Dash cam: Hardwired from the driver's side fuse panel with a low-voltage cut-off on every generation. Parking sensors: Colour-matched rear and front sensors with a factory-style tone; display on the Android screen where fitted. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters; Bose cars keep the factory amplifier and subwoofer. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.
CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Reversing camera: two to three hours. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Dash cam: one to two hours for a front camera, about two with a rear camera. Most 3 owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
BK: the CD radio built into the dashboard, Bose on the Sport trim; no screen stays and we add to it. BL: the CD radio with a small display strip above the vents; TomTom navigation on some facelift cars; Bose on higher trims stays and we add to it. BM / BN: the MZD Connect with a 7-inch screen and the Commander knob; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory on late 2018 and 2019 cars only stays and we add to it. BP: the Mazda Connect with an 8.8-inch screen and the Commander knob; CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory, wireless CarPlay on later cars stays and we add to it. Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
Send the reg or the year on WhatsApp or the form below and we confirm the generation, the route, the price and the next free slot. Every job carries a one-year warranty on the work, done at our workshop in Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11, Monday to Saturday.
