Our wireless CarPlay box. It sits behind the Denso 7-inch touchscreen and puts CarPlay or Android Auto on it full-size, driven by touch, with the phone connecting wirelessly when you start the car. The Land Rover menus, the terrain and camera pages and the Harman Kardon sound stay as they were, and the car goes back to standard if the box is removed. It fits 2010–2016 cars.

Often, yes. From the 2018 model year the InControl Touch Pro system can carry CarPlay and Android Auto as a locked option, and on those cars we check the VIN and unlock it by software with no parts. 2017 cars and any Touch Pro that cannot be unlocked get our wireless CarPlay box on the original screen. Facelift cars from 2020 with Pivi Pro have it as standard.

It depends on the generation. L319 Discovery 3 (2004–2009): from €650; L319 Discovery 4 (2009–2016): from €400; L462 (2017–2020): from €150; Facelift L462 (2020 on): from €150. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.

L319 Discovery 3, built 2004–2009 (Land Rover radio with no screen on most cars; 6.5-inch touchscreen navigation as an option): Android screen made for the Discovery 3 dash in place of the radio or navigation unit, with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB and a camera input; the Harman Kardon amplifier kept through an adapter where fitted. L319 Discovery 4, built 2009–2016 (Denso 7-inch touchscreen with navigation on most cars; no CarPlay): Wireless CarPlay box behind the 7-inch touchscreen, driven by touch, the kit in our Discovery 4 case studies; an Android screen for the few cars without navigation. L462, built 2017–2020 (InControl Touch Pro 10-inch; CarPlay and Android Auto an option from 2018, missing on most early cars): Software unlock where the 2018-on Touch Pro carries the locked function, which we check by VIN; otherwise our wireless CarPlay box on the original screen. Facelift L462, built 2020 on (Pivi Pro 11.4-inch with CarPlay and Android Auto standard, wireless on most cars after updates): Factory CarPlay; a wireless adapter where the software does not do it already, pairing and map region sorted on imported cars.

L319 Discovery 3: two to three hours; L319 Discovery 4: two to four hours; L462: under an hour; Facelift L462: about an hour. You can wait at the workshop or drop the Discovery in the morning and collect it the same day.

L319 Discovery 3: the display is replaced, but the steering-wheel buttons, the factory amplifier and the climate controls are kept. L319 Discovery 4: the Denso 7-inch touchscreen with navigation on most cars; no CarPlay and its controls stay; the box sits behind the trim and is switched from the factory buttons. L462: nothing physical changes — the InControl Touch Pro 10-inch; CarPlay and Android Auto an option from 2018, missing on most early cars stays and the CarPlay tile simply appears. Facelift L462: CarPlay is factory-fitted, so we only add to it.
